If Lady Macbeth did not manipulate Macbeth to be deceptive and did not question his manhood, then Macbeth would not have considered murdering king Duncan. After three witches prophesize Macbeth’s future as king, his naive and indecisive personality is revealed. He constantly contemplates whether or not he should kill king Duncan, but his thoughts are corrupted by his wife, Lady Macbeth. When Macbeth gains the title of king then she is automatically throne as queen. When Lady Macbeth knows about Macbeth’s prophecy to become king she says, “Look like the time. Bear welcome in your eye, Your hand, your tongue. Look like th' innocent flower, But be the serpent under’t” (1.5 75-78). Once he commits to the crime and becomes the serpent, he continues to be a murderer and kills his friend, Banquo. Eventually, Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth to commit the murder, but before the murder he is anxious. Macbeth realizes that the only reason he has to kill the king, is to pursue his own selfish desire and that will lead to disaster. He tells Lady Macbeth that he can no longer kill king Duncan. Lady Macbeth uses manipulation to make Macbeth feel weak and forcing him to kill to prove that he is a man.
