What is the value of research in the career for a Health Informatics or HIM professional?
1. The first things an HIM professional will need to understand is that their job is a key source in improving the quality and delivery of healthcare. The thought of building a strong source of knowledge and communication with all healthcare providers has been challenging. However, that’s why we value the performances of research. Research is a way for analyzing and collaborating new opportunities within the healthcare organization.

I want to make a difference in the quality of patient care when and where I can. Although I do not work directly with patients, I do realize the impact I as a health information professional have on the patients and the care they receive.
According to the American Health Information Management Association, Health information is the data related to a person’s medical history, including symptoms, diagnoses, procedures, and outcomes. Health information records include patient histories, lab results, x-rays, clinical information, and notes. The data can be analyzed to see how a patient’s health might have changed. I took interest in Health Information Management when it was brought to my attention by a doctor. He told me that is a very interesting field and it is in high demand as they have more jobs than people to fill them. I went home, researched it and now here I am making my entry into the field.

Health information infrastructure (HII) is a community level informatics systems comprising thorough electronic patient records for the whole population and can be obtained from authorized personnel anywhere when necessary. The key requirements for a successful HII are privacy and trust, stakeholder cooperation, information always available in an electronic format, financial sustainability, community focus, and governance and organizational support. Moreover, HII can be viewed either from an institution or a patient standpoint (Yasnoff, 2014).
