The World Health Organisation defines health as a state of complete physical mental and social well-being. (Health, 2010). Good health is more than being free from disease and infirmity. Good health means that a healthy person is able to use all his or her mental, spiritual and physical resources to maximise the chance of survival, to live a happy and fulfilling life and help their dependents and society. (M. Kent 2000. pp.340). Health can also be thought of as a dynamic state in which a person is able to cope well with their internal and external environments in order to maintain a state of wellness. It is presented by signs and symptoms. Diseases are caused by many different factors, such as infections, lifestyle, genes and degeneracy. Physical health can be impaired by any of these factors but in this case we are going to look at how it is impacted by lifestyle factors. (Boyle and Kathryn, 2008, pp. 439). Lifestyle factors that contribute or cause a disease are the day to day habits or routines that individuals are engaged. These include the type of diet eaten, social and recreational activities and type of work done. These choices are believed to have an adverse or favourable impact on physical health, with adverse effects resulting in disease and favourable effects reducing the risk of developing of physical disease. The lifestyle aspects that are linked with physical diseases include smoking, alcohol, poor diet, and lack of exercise, drug taking and too much exposure to sun.
