While the Hundred Years’ War was raging in Western Europe, another crisis struck the peoples of Europe, Asia, and North Africa. The Black Death was a devastating plague that raged across three continents between 1347 and 1351. Millions of people perished during this plague which upended feudal society and dramatically altered the social and political structures of Western Europe. The Black Death was a terrible and nasty disease. Almost all of the population of Europe died from this plague and the Black Death stunned many people in many communities. The Black Death affected Europe socially was that the people thought that the Jews made the plague. The people went around burning Jews, burning their homes, and had many riots. The Pope Urban made the hatred of the Jews stop. The Black Death affected many of the people mentally was the Lord’s suffered many economic problems. The lower classes were happy because they had a higher living. The nobles were mad that there workers were greedy, lazy and would not work on many basis. There were many people said the servants are now master while masters are servants. The Nobles complained more about the higher prices of items. The Nobles also tried to make a law that put the lower class back down to their original place. They made the Statue of Laborers, and passed the parliament. They made it a crime to accept higher wages than what they received before the disease spread. The lower class made attempts to have kings, and land owning barons give them better living conditions. The serfs left and never wanted to be servants again. They even sued there Lords. The English peasants rioted in 1381 which destroy the parliament. The food in the land was also terrible. All over Europe many of the people were in poverty. The crops failed because many of the farmers had died and some couldn’t attend to it. The food began to go up in price because of the shortage of form labors. The effect on Europe feudal system was that the nobles and Kings left and when they came back there was nothing to rule over. The Black Death (also called the "plague" or the "pestilence", the bacteria that causes it is Yersinia Pestis) was a devastating pandemic causing the death of over one-third of Europe's population in its major wave of 1348-1349. Yersinia Pestis had two major strains: the first, the Bubonic form, was carried by fleas on rodents and caused swelling of the lymph nodes, or "buboes", and lesions under the skin, with a fifty-percent mortality rate; the second, the pneumonic form, was airborne after the bacteria had mutated and caused fluids to build up in the lungs and other areas, causing suffocation and a seventy-percent mortality rate.

Though tragic, the Black Death caused several positive societal changes. Specifically, the Black Death helped society by contributing to the economic empowerment of peasants and disempowerment of nobility that led to the decline of manorialism, as well as by encouraging the development of new medical and scientific techniques by proving old methods and beliefs false.
In 1300, multiple out breaks of the Black Plague arised. For example, in the thirteenth century an outbreak in China killed one third of the population. Several dates before this time showed the disease was present years ago in Europe. Dying from the Plague was scary to most people and Jordan Mcmullin, an author stresses, “Whenever the Plague appeared the sadness of death was terrifying” (Mcmullin n.pag.). Death has always been frightening, but when a country plagues with disease, death becomes a terrible fear, the Plague scared the people of 541, and 542, when their outbreak of the Plague spread. Therefore, while other outbreaks of the Black Plague took place, the fourteenth century outbreak in Europe was certainly the worst.
The Black Death is the name later given to the epidemic of plague that ravaged Europe between 1347 and 1351. The disaster affected all aspects of life. Depopulation and shortage of labor hastened changes already inherent in the rural economy; the substitution of wages for labor services was accelerated, and social stratification became less rigid. The Black Plague, perhaps one of the worst epidemics in history, swept its evil across Europe in the middle of the 14th century, killing an estimated 20 million people. This major population shift, along with other disasters occurring at the time, such as famine and an already existing economic recession, plunged Europe into a dark period of complete turmoil. The plague, as catastrophic as it was to medieval Europe, had just as many positive effects that came with this recovery as it did negative effects prior. Killing the farm workers, the Black Death left crops not gathered which led to a shortage of food supplies and people to starve. Because of the mortality and the labor shortage, prices of goods dropped while the wages rose. Landowners were so desperate that they tried everything to keep the peasants to work for them.
