Roman Empire was one of the greatest and splendorous in history. Given to its wealth and power, romans needed to show to everybody how powerful they were and one of the ways that the found to show this was through architecture. They were influenced by many others cultures architecture, especially Greek architecture which they implemented since the beginning of the empire and perfected every day. There are many examples of this Greek architecture all around Italy, although the also made some changes or transformations to this classical styles. Examples of this power of the Roman Empire are the Saint Peter’s Piazza and the Campidoglio. Two public spaces were the classical style get mix with other cultures architecture and design. On Saint Peter’s Piazza, two fountains “and the obelisk establish a cross-axis” (Fazio, Moffett and Wodehouse) that give some symmetry to the design. In addition two the Piazza Obliqua, which is how is call the obelisk shape part of the Saint Peter’s Piazza there is other part which shape represents more a parallelogram that acknowledge people refer to have some kind of reference to Piazza Campidoglio, may be related to the position of the Vatican Palace with the church.
Campidoglio also has its own unique characteristics. Michelangelo Buonarroti design a giant stair that allow to reach the high piazza, but also allow him to close the view of the design. This new feature took reference from the Roman Forum and closes the design of the new political center of Rome. Almost near to the center Michelangelo place other piece of art to give some sculptural touch to his design a bronze figure of Marcus Aurelius. Michelangelo finish the new look for the Campidoglio Piazza by remodeling the old palazzos surrounding the new
