There have been numerous scientists who have contributed to society, but maybe there is a scientist who was more influential than the others. Albert Einstein has contributed innumerable ideas and inventions to society. He contributed the most because he discovered The Theory of Relativity and discovered the Bose-Einstein Condensate. First of all, Albert Einstein was the most important figure of the twentieth century because of his contribution to American science and society as an immigrant. This is foremost important because of the U.S.'s status as the premier nation of the world. Albert Einstein has had one of the greatest ever influences upon the American way of life. He is responsible for many of the most famous scientific and philosophical standards used in America today. He was born in Germany in 1879, but Albert did not come to America until 1933, when he feared for his life and fled from Nazi Germany. It was at this time that he was at his greatest fame.(PBS 1) He then began his work for the United States. His discoveries have impacted all facets of American culture. The sophisticated Special Theory of Relativity in physics that he created models the behavior of the entire universe. Isaac Newton was one of the most influential scientists of all time with his major contribution being in mathematics, physics, and optics. Though he came from nothing, he made not only a name for himself, but made a mark in story that no one could ever erase. No one can deny that he played a major pivotal role during the scientific revolution.
A list of Benjamin Franklin's inventions reveals a man of many talents and interests. He was a brilliant scientist and his ingenuity brought us many inventions we are still using today. Franklin was always curious to find out how different things worked, and always tried to find some way of making them work better. Other famous scientists like Thomas A. Edison and Alexander Graham Bell followed his footsteps and created many new inventions which made people's lives easier and more enjoyable.
Sir Alexander Fleming changed the world of medicine not only in his days but also in the world today. We have the medicines and antibiotics that we have today because of Alexander Fleming. His discovery was much needed in the world and I hate to think where we would be in the medicine world if he hadn’t discovered penicillin.
In 1905, Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity was proposed. The reason that it is so "special" is because it was part of the more complex and extensive Theory of General Relativity, which was published in 1915. His theory reshaped the world of physics when it contradicted all previous laws of motion erected by Galileo and Newton. By mathematically manipulating these previous laws of motion, physicists in the nineteenth century were able to explain such phenomena as the flow of the ocean, the orbits of planets around the sun, the fall of rocks, and the random behavior of molecules in gases. At first, Einstein faced great opposition when he came up with his radical new theory because the previous laws of motion proposed by Galileo and expanded upon by Newton had remained valid for over two hundred years. However, it wouldn’t be long before the "cement" in the foundation of Newtonian and Galilean physics would begin to crumble.
Galileo used this great invention to report astronomical facts such as the moon is cover with craters instead of being smooth, the Milky Way is composed of millions of stars, and Jupiter have four moons. Perhaps the most famous discovery is the Earth revolves around the Sun and the Earth is not the center of the universe (even though he was discredited at the time).
Many inventors have left their mark on society. One inventor, in particular, is commonly found at the top of the list of the greatest inventors in world history. He has influenced and impacted many facets of our lives. His inventions laid the foundation of many industries and products which still exist today.
I have chosen two of them who were in many ways just opposites. One is extremely famous and the other is almost unknown except to specialists. The most famous is of course Albert Einstein. He has significantly altered our view of the world with his Theory of Relativity.
In the years of 1910 - 1919, scientist were very influential. They are the people who carved the world's future. Scientist invented, discovered and so much more. They are the reason we survived. We have to give them credit for everything that they have provided for us.
Thomas Alva Edison was considered one of the greatest inventors and industrial leader. He had over 1000 inventions but none greater then his ability to develop a system that would provide people with a wide safe stable and efficient light and power. This also lead to other countries such as Europe and South America to follow this wonderful invention that modernized the world forever.
Two years after graduating from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Einstein got a job working for the Swiss patent office based in Bern. While the work required a great deal of his attention, he managed to produce a great many publications on theoretical Physics. Primarily he worked on these in his spare time and without very much other scientific literature or colleagues to discuss with. He gained his Ph.D. Degree in 1905 by submitting one of these papers to the University of Zurich. Then another paper submission in 1908 gained him a position at the University of Bern as a lecturer. A year later he was appointed as associate professor of physics at the University of Zurich.
Albert Einstein is possibly considered to be the greatest scientist of all time. He is well known for coming up with the theory of relativity described by the formula e=mc2, where energy is equal to mass times the speed of light squared. His accomplishments in physics helped start the nuclear age with nuclear weapons and power. Like most famous people he changed the world in a variety of ways. The most significant ways Einstein made the world a better place were his achievements in science, pacifism, and philosophical writings.
Benjamin Franklin was a brilliant scientist who invented many useful things. Although throughout his experiments and inventions, he was curious about one special thing. "He was so curious in fact that his experiments toward electricity took up over four years of his life, and devoured over one half of his of profits of his printing business" (Fleming 4). After many trials and experiments, he discovered this power source while flying a kite during a lightning storm. "Through his loses he turned this new born curiosity into a full fledged branch of science." (Fleming 4) His findings led to many other scientists to test on this phenomenon and invent many practical and useful things that led to the expansion of human knowledge. Many of these inventions were used to better everyday human life. l
