Hopes in the Red, White, and Blue: The American Dream

A group of people riding a ship are being tossed by high waves and scorched by the hot sun. They feel tired, hungry, cold, and yet a fierce light burns within them. As they look across the ocean, they see something that will change their lives forever. Green grass and tall trees that seem to touch the sky stretch across the horizon as they look towards it with hope. All they want is a fresh start and all they dream about is a safe life, one they can call their own. This land and source of hope is America. Throughout the years people have come to America to start a new life. Some wished for a big house, while others wanted an education that could get them a job. Others yet wanted a family and to make a difference in their lives and others. Everyone has an idea or goal that provides them with a perfect life and this idea is considered as the American Dream. Being able to live in a county where families support each other, people get equality, and education is important is my American Dream. Families are very important to live a life full of happiness. They give love and support whenever it is needed. People everywhere have different ideas of how their family should be or what they want. One person may want five kids, while another wants only two. Little kids think about the families they are going to have and one little girl’s wish is “I want a husband, one girl, and to live in the country” (Stachler). Someday this little girls dream may come true with hard work but for now it is just a dream. Be it kids or grown nobody wants to live a life by themselves because loneliness is not happiness. Not having friends or family to celebrate with during happy moments is not a dream. With determination and hope too will come to America and became United States citizens. Realizing how hard people work to get freedoms and decent educations makes me realize how lucky I am to live in America. Freedom has allowed me to live without very many boundaries, while education gives me the chance to pursue my dreams and job choices. American Dreams are different for everyone but they all are important. “If you can dream it, you can achieve it” this quote perfectly defines the American Dream, because with hope, determination, and persistence we can achieve anything.
