I once heard a quote by Winston Churchill that said, " History will be kind to me for I intend to write it". Throughout our lives, we all face hardships for which we have to overcome, some more than others. Sometimes our life does not go as plan. We should never dwell on the past and always look forward to the future. This is a lesson I had to learn the hard way, no matter your race, sexual orientation or how wealthy you are you will always have some type of setback happen to you during your lifetime. During the summer going into tenth grade, my life changed drastically which helped shape me into the person I am today. On June 14, 2014, I lost my mom. That was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I also had to constantly remind myself that I had the right to be sad and I did not always have to be the strong one. I had to learn that I was allowed to cry sometimes and I had nothing to prove to anyone. It took me two whole years to really be in a good place in my life. I turned all of my anger into motivation. Everything that I have talked about today plus more has motivated me to want to become a counselor and mentor young children. I know that if I would have had someone to talk to maybe I would not have had such a hard time transitioning into the next chapter of my life. I perceive that I could relate more to the children which would make me a better counselor because I know what they are going through and I can sympathize more. I am going to show my siblings they can do whatever they want in life as long as they put their mind to it. Everyone expects me to fail, they assume I am going to end up pregnant at a young age, on drugs or in an abusive relationship because of my mother I have heard this my whole life from people who are on the outside looking in.
