High School Football Should Be Banned

We have all heard the news and watched the movies about the dangers of football because of the frequent cases of players that sustain concussions. Yet, it is still a very popular sport and a source of entrainment for individuals in the United States. With all the attention to the professionals, the spotlight is shined away from young adults and children who are also at risk while playing this sport. My research is ongoing and is about how high school football should be banned. This also includes Pop Warner leagues and tackle football under the age of fourteen. My data will consist of how the population actually might agree on one particular side to the issue and get a more in depth view of the effects of contact on a young body. The results will either strength or defend my perspective and side to the issue of why high schools should ban the assembly of a tackle football team on their campus. There are two sides of this issue and my defense includes the ban of the assembly of a young football team. The other side could be that football helps keeps children in shape and active. The whole reason why I believe football should be banned in high schools is because of the dangers of head hits. There are trials and lawsuits where professional football players are suing NFL because of the consequence/side-effect of multiple hits to the head. However, playing football does help kids to stay active and is very entertaining. Mrs. Torpey is an author for The Gale Encyclopedia of Nursing and Allied Health and discussed how “studies have shown that, in general, childhood activity is on the decline and childhood obesity is on the rise. Requirements for physical education in schools have become less stringent. One survey sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control reports that 50% of high school students are not enrolled in physical education (2547).” Obesity can occur with or without tackle football because of the amount of other physical activities that are available for kids. A growing body of scientific evidence indicates that the declining levels of physical activity and fitness in children and youth are associated with adverse impacts on their health, including rising levels of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, metabolic syndrome and increased risk of sports injury. Both high body mass index and physical activity level have been associated with an increased risk of sports injuries. BMI is a measure of body fat that is the ratio of the weight of the body in kilograms to the square of its height in meters.
