Since fourth grade I have always looked forward to Friday nights after school, it was bowling night, and it was my favorite night. The weekly bowling league started off just for fun but it quickly transitioned into something bigger. Not many people think of bowling as a sport, rather just a recreational activity to do with your friends. I do not see it that way. I quickly enhanced my skills and achieved the highest average in my age group. Now, eight years later, I have realised how bowling has shaped me to be a persistent person and to never let go of a dream no matter how close you have gotten and failed. My first year of high school bowling I was placed on the junior varsity team, as a freshman it was standard. It also gave me valuable experience in how high school bowling works. My second year I was moved up to the varsity team and had a big shoe to fill from the year prior. We were the number one team in our district that year, guaranteeing us a spot in the state tournament. The team had gone to the tournament before, but it was my first time. Feeling that if only I had made one more spare, or struck instead of getting a nine count, that we would have made it. However, I quickly realized that we as a team had done what we could have and that nothing was going to change the outcome. At the end of the year banquet we all decided to come back next year even better and to forget about what happened at state. Coming so close to having a chance to be state champs, and not being able to accomplish that by such a small margin can discourage anyone to stop doing what they love.
