This is a type of multiple personality disorder that stems from trauma, physical and psychological abuse suffered as a child. This is because the personality is still being developed. Walker wrote a book called "Breaking Free" which details his disorder and the effects it has had on his life. The purpose of this book is to create awareness for DID and to reveal his true self.
