In everyday life, humans are forced to decide whether they want to do something that abides by the rules, or if they want to follow the darker path. No one is perfect, and most people end up doing choosing both side in different periods of their life times; learning the effects of their decisions afterwards. In Heat by Mike Lupica and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, by Mark Haddon, Christopher and Michael were given several chances to choose between right and wrong, and these teenagers decided to take the right path, and do what’s morally right. First demonstration in these novels that share a common theme of doing good in their choice of actions in the beginning of the story. Michael did the right thing when when he …show more content…
Michael said, “ what did I do to become this guy's enemies? ... Become a better pitcher than him? Wasn't anybody in this league allowed to do that?”(194). Michael was able to remain calm, even when Justin was jeering and annoying him, because he knew that staying calm was the good thing to do, and that it will pay off for him in the long run. Christopher also abided by the common theme of doing good when he became afraid of his father after he lied and ended up being the one who murdered Wellington. Christopher was fearful as he decided through his logical reasoning that anyone who could do something this bad to a dog is cruel enough to hurt a human being. “I had to get out of the house. Father had murdered Wellington. That meant that he could murder me, because I couldn’t trust him, even though he said ‘Trust me,’ because he had told a lie about a big thing.”(122). Christopher felt that because his father was a ‘murderer’ he should run away, as it’s the right thing to do, because why live with someone who killed someone else? Due to his thinking, he believes that the good thing to do is run away, not only because he’s afraid because he doesn’t want to live with him. In the end, Michael and Christopher both did the right thing, instead of following the misleading path of
At times in a person’s life, they might come across a few situations that leave them with a major decision between two or more options that challenge what they believe or what they might think is wrong or right. These are known as ethical dilemmas. Be it seeing a friend steal something and choosing between being honest and speaking up or letting it go. It can also be getting paid more than you earned and deciding if you’re going to be greedy and keep the money or return it. We run into these situations in our lives, some bigger and more influential on our destiny’s while others are small with no real consequences.
morals are acquired, and conformity to a standard of right is attained. In the novel The
With every decision one makes. There will always be consequences. In Haddon’s, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, the character Christopher and his parents find that their bad decisions could lead to a negative outcome. Mrs. Boone’s choice to leave home and Mr. Boone’s choice to lie to Christopher lead to him leaving home to search for his mother. A common theme of the actions of the characters is acting before thinking. The theme of decisions and consequences reveals the imperfections of each character, ultimately demonstrating the quintessential impatient need for growth.

If the voting age is lowered, it is true that a higher voter turnout would be a result. Other countries such as Belgium, Germany, and Austria have a lower voting age and enjoy a higher percentage of voter turnout. Belgium ranks at 93% voter participation, while the U.S. trails behind at just 38% turnout in congressional elections. These facts seem to indicate that a lower voting age has a direct impact on voter participation. However, there is no concrete proof that a lower voting age directly impacts voter turnout. I believe the problem lies deeper than age.
“It was 7 minutes after midnight. The dog was lying on the grass in the middle of the lawn in front of Mrs.Shears's house.” The way an author narrates their book is a very important factor in the reader’s understanding. The book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon is narrated in first person by a 15 year old autistic boy named Christopher Boone. Having the book narrated by an autistic boy is not a good idea because readers can understand some situations better than Christopher could, he has trouble determining how others feel and he’s always explaining things he doesn’t understand, but most readers do. Christopher is an inadequate narrator which frustrates the readers.
Developing from a child to a teenager means reaching for an understanding of things. This is where they become more mature and when new character traits are developed. People change each time as they progress when they move on or learn a lesson in life. In each novel there is always a person who gains new character traits. The novel " The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time" by Mark Haddon also has a main character whose traits develop as the story moves on. The main character "Christopher Boone" converts into a thoughtful, independent, and courageous teenager.
Today in America, less than half of young voters between the ages of 18 and 24 vote (TheBestColleges.org). What most of these new adults fail to realize, is that their government depends on them to vote and elect new leaders to represent their country. Many of them make excuses to avoid voting, when really, they benefit most from voting.
All through out history, we have had many situations that may have had good intentions but in reality would have bad consequences. Some people might think they are doing the right thing but in reality they might just be making the situation worse. For instance, we see it in Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave”, Vonnegut’s “Harrison Bergeron”, and today with “Vaping” also know as the use of an electronic cigarette.
Although there are 44 million eligible young voters ages 18-29, in 2012 only 45% of them voted. These young people make up one fifth, or 21%, of the eligible voting population, yet they often do not vote. Voting is a tremendous gift. Young people in many other countries around the world have to fight to gain this right. In America, voting is often taken for granted by all age groups, but the youth take it for granted the most. In this paper, the reason why young people do not vote will be explored and solutions as to how to get them to vote will be proposed.
I think that the legal age of voting should be age 21 and older because when they are at least 21 they are able to make good decisions and choose which one would be the best President. When they are at age 21 they are at the drinking age legally. And that means that they can make big decisions and be responsible and they should be the ones to be to vote.

Furthermore, thus leads the way to the brilliance of Mark Haddon's decision of storytelling: The most emotional moments are brought to us by a kid who can't understand feelings. The impact is stunning, making for a novel that is profoundly entertaining, strong, and interesting in its

Voting is an important civic duty that United States citizens earn when they become 18 years old. Some citizens in the United States wish to change this age to 16. Today’s society views 16 year olds as ignorant, care free, and reckless citizens who are definitely not capable of making an appropriate vote. Although some argue there is no such thing as an inappropriate vote, and that voting is not a test of knowledge, it definitely is. As school systems fail to give the required civic education youth needs, 16-year-olds will not be informed to produce quality votes. Imagine 16 year olds who have no preparation, voting for the President of the United States. There needs to be changes within the civics education before the voting age is even questioned. As well as education, 16 year olds also lack responsibility. They are growing up and are under the pressure of peers, family and media sources. With all the pressure and influences resting on their shoulders they should be able to wait two more years for their own opinions and views to develop. While waiting these 16 year olds can also develop a more concerned outlook on politics and become more engaged. Without youth interest in politics lowering the voting age would be useless. For how much work and time is put in to campaigning and engaging youth, the youth should start to show more concern for their government before the efforts are wasted.
In “You’re 16, You’re Beautiful and You’re a Voter,” author Anya Kamenetz states her belief that the voting age should be lowered to sixteen. Kamenetz gives several premises to her argument.
