The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time In this book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time, Mark Haddon writes about Christopher John Francis Boone who is an autistic child. Throughout this story Christopher attempts to solve a murder case of his neighbor’s poodle. Christopher wakes up one day at seven minutes past midnight, and he notices the next-door neighbor’s dog laying on the ground. So he decides to go over and check out what happened, soon he found a garden fork sticking out of a dog named Wellington. Since Christopher likes murder mystery novels, he decided to write his own murder mystery novel starting with finding out what happened to Wellington. Throughout his attempt in solving the mystery of the murder of Wellington, several hidden secrets erupted and were revealed to Christopher. Christopher is a very special fifteen-year-old, as he has Autism and he, does not like to be touched. Christopher also and dislikes the color yellow very much. However he likes the color red, and he believes that if he sees a number or red cars in order, then it will probably be a good day. Christopher likes prime numbers so each chapter is a prime number instead of being numerically ordered. Christopher only lives with his father as his mother has died two years ago. After his mother died, his neighbor Mrs. Shears used to come over to cook for them. She would also clean and organize the house for them. Christopher and his father never hug as he does not like being touched, however sometimes they let their hands meet and touch each other’s thumbs and fingers. Christopher does not actually like proper novels; instead he likes novels and books on math, science, and mystery novels. Christopher also has a good teach... ... middle of paper ... ... the ending of the book seemed too abrupt to me, and could be improved by making that a little smoother. It seemed like he was rushing to finish the book toward the end of the book, and quickly wrapped up the story at the end, I think that could be improved, but still nicely written. The story related to people who really had autism in life, and how their parents would react to them. Because kids and adults with autism would commonly resist to change, and do what they wanted to do, just like how the author portrayed Christopher as a stubborn person who did what he wanted to. Haddon was able to write about autism, because he has formerly worked with children who were autistic, so he decided to write about it. Overall this was a really interesting book, which not only interesting, but also provides readers who are ignorant to what autism is with information about it.
