Hazing in College Capmuses

Hazing is corrupting colleges across the United States; and therefore, affecting the lives of college students. Hazing is any activity expected of someone joining or participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses, and endangers them physically and/ or emotionally regardless of a person’s willingness to participate. This act of initiating violence is affecting the morals, standards and manners that exist on college campuses. College campuses are changing their views on this problem and they are also prohibiting the practice of hazing on any organization. Even though hazing has been interdicted from college campuses, most organizations still practice it “underground”. Hazing is viewed as an essential part of initiation to many organizations because it is believed that it makes the individual work hard for what they want and therefore makes them appreciate it even more. Hazing changes the lives of every individual involved in one way or another. In some cases the individuals end up with emotional trauma and physically harmed, some even end up dead. Therefore, it is imperative that hazing on college campuses be more penalized due to its negative effect on humanity.

It is believed that many organizations do not cease hazing because it is and has been a tradition for many years. Three in five students are subject to hazing(“Did you know?”). Some of the rituals involved in hazing are getting beat up, being deprived of sleep, drinking until they vomit and/or pass out, writing on the pledge with a permanent marker when they are asleep, depriving them from personal hygiene, among other illegal and degrading tasks.
