Gum chewing is banned in many schools. But should it be kept that way? Many are against the gum chewing not permitted in schools. But others say it should be kept that way. Gum chewing can cause many problems.Such as dental decay, and health problems. In addition, it can get stuck anywhere if the person who chewed it was to be irresponsible. Finally, it can be disruptive to many classmates To start off,gum chewing can cause many health problems.Such as dental decay.According to Disadvantages of chewing gum it states, ¨Sugared gum can with heavy use cause tooth decay,gum disease and cavities.This happens because sugar coats the teeth,and can slowly cause damaging of tooth enamel if they are not immediately brushed.¨ This information shows that gum is not healthy for our teeth instead is it a way to destroy them. In the letter written by principal Mackey it states, “Think about how much our custodial team does to keep our school clean.If I allow gum, the custodians will inevitably have to add scraping gum off desks,water fountains, and carpets to their list of things to do.” This shows that even though gum can be beneficial to many students learning. It can make the custodians work even harder to keep the school clean.Also in 8 reasons why Gum Has no Place in the Classroom written by Jake Miller states, “ This is probably the number 1 reason to prevent gum chewing. Our middle school is nearly 60 years old, and it’s in pretty decent condition. A large reason behind that is the fact that gum is and has been prohibited. Compared to the high school that I taught at, which is less than 10 years old – I still remember going to get a drink from a water fountain that was splattered with gum, someone even wrapping their gum around the faucet.
