There are many fun pets to have out there. Puppies, kittens, fish, but there's one that out ranks them all, the guinea pig. Not only are they lovable and caring, they are quite easy to care for. The only problem is they’re kind of spendy. A normal guinea pig can cost up to thirty dollars, not including all the supplies you need to care for them. When choosing a piggie companion keep in mind which one will be perfect for you. There are up to eleven different breeds of guinea pigs. The American, Abyssinian, Peruvian, Silkie, Teddy, Texel, White-Crested, Rex, Himalayan,Cuy, and The Skinny Pig. Also let them roam around the room, but keep a close eye on them, just incase they decide to chew on cords, or find something they aren't supposed to get into. Guinea pigs will get depressed if they are confined in a small environment, or if they are alone. Make sure to buy guinea pigs two at a time. If You buy different guinea pigs and put them in the same cage, they’ll either mate, then kill each other, or just flat out eat one another. . It is also wise to clean the cage once or twice a week to keep the cage from smelling. If you keep a male guinea pig with a female one, they will be most likley to mate around summer, you will need to take the male out after your piggies mate, if not the male will try and mate with her after about a month. A female guinea pig can give up to four guinea pig pups each birth, and after five days they will be able to survive on their own, even though it isn’t reccomended. A guinea pig on average will poop every 10 to 15 minutes. It would explain why they always eat. When feeding a guinea pig make sure to add new veggies gradually, to avoid giving your cavy diarrhea. You want to give them about an 1/8th of a cup of piggie pellets, an unlimited supply of hay and fruits and veggies once a day. The first one I ever got was a small female who hadn’t been more that six months old, she was light brown with a gray heart on her back and the entire right side of her face was gray as well. She always bit me or ran away when someone got close to her, you can tell she was abused by her previous owner, due to the way she reacted when you go to pet her, and scars on her body.
