Daniella Mena Prof. Pi Wu Brofft Math 151-Math for Liberal Arts January 29, 2013 Greek Mathematics Math is like love, a simple idea but it can get complicated. Mathematic was created and developed a long time, before I was born. Ancient times had great impact in civilization on Greece. The era of classic Greece culture, witch spread around the Meditatrian basin around 300 B.C., was the beginning of the risen of Greece mathematics. Some famous people who achieve the Greece mathematic were Thales, Pythagoras, Hippocrates, Theaetetus, Eudoxus, and, Euclid. They all help construct the basic fundamental that we practice in elementary and geometry. One of the famous scholar, Euclid was able to develop some of the first rules for algebra. If all of these people didn’t have a love or complicated relationship with math, none of what we do in school would exist. For about three centuries, these men and women were able to prove and open new theory to the ancient history of Greece mathematics. The first one were going to discuss about will be Thales. Thale was born on 624 to 546 BC, He was born around Asia, Miletus in an era of western philosophy. He is known for the first mathematician to discover the Thale theorem but he also used math in geometry to determine height and distance. Our second member would be Pythagoras, He was born in Ionian Greek in 570 to 495 B.C. He is also known to be the founder of the religious movement. There is not a lot of information about him, but most say he traveled to Egypt for Knowledge. What he was most famous for was proving his own theory called the Pythagoras theorem. Pythagoras theorem is used in geometry, it’s about a right angle triangle that is equal to the sum of an area. The third member named Hip... ... middle of paper ... ... cases, and meanings. Book 6 means similar figures. Book 7 is about Elementary numeral theory. Book 8 contains proportions in number theory. Book 9 contains infinitude of prime number. Book 10 contains irrational number. Book 11 deals with geometry. Book 12 contains volume of shape. Finally book 13 contains the five platonic solid. We don’t stop and give the appreciation that we have in this modern era of 2014. Math helps us make building and it has proven scientific theory. Were always complains we don’t need math in our lives, but it’s the exact opposite. Surely, we do need it for money but money goes ever where, to even enormous companies. They need people who can find similarity, and keep the business rolling. Thales, Pythagoras, Hippocrates, Theaetetus, Eudoxus, and, Euclid, made our lives simple but we should be thankful of having so much dedication to math.
