Grand Canyon The Grand Canyon is one of the wonders of the world. The Grand Canyon is probably the best one. This opinion is predicated on many things, but there are three main reasons I like this park: geology, wildlife, and recreational activities. These things magnetize around 5,000,000 people on average per year. There’s a reason why so many people come every year! Talking about Geology, many rocks are stored at the Grand Canyon, like Coconino Sandstone. Due to its dark firmaments and clean air, Grand Canyon has one of the best night welkin optically discerning places to be in the United States. New astronomers from across the country volunteer their skills and offer free nightly astronomy programs and telescope viewing. From the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, they offer one hour and three-hour trips. Additionally, if you are intrigued with mule-riding, the three-hour canyon mule ride will descend 2300 hundred feet down the North Kaibab trail into the natural wonder, the Supai Tunnel. Other than harming the park, A dry stack stone amphitheater by Andy Dufford at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon was built. A handcrafted amphitheater of local Kaibab limestone connects visitors to the Grand Canyon and provides a spectacular setting for Park programs on the South Rim. There are 241 miles of road in the grand canyon open to conveyances. Withal, there is a glass platform on the north rim of the park near the visitor center. Rangers live in dorms in the park, they pay 18 dollars per week to reside there. Many will attest to the grandeur of the natural feature that exists in northern Arizona, but the formation of the Grand Canyon has befuddled geomorphologists to this day. This confusion can be attributed to the Kaibab Plateau, an anomaly considering the Colorado River traverses it seamlessly. Four prevalent hypotheses have been proposed since the 19th century, starting with the lake overflow proposition first brought up by John Newbury and then reinforced by Eliot Blackwelder. Newbury argued that a structure must have ponded an ancient lake causing an overspill to cut into the Grand Canyon. This argument holds that the river must have come after the plateau’s existence. Unbeknownst to Newbury, the structure would be the Kaibab Plateau.
Mexico City, Mexico(DE) - At the annual conference for the American Citizens For A Better Grand Canyon Group (ACFABGCG), attendees decided that the only way to attract more people to the Grand Canyon would be to fill the natural woder with ice cream. Twenty millions gallons of ice cream will be needed to maintain a full level everyday. It is hoped that this will help Arizona's ice cream manufacturing plants and a fee will also be passed for anyone that looks at the Grand Canyon. In other Grand Canyon developments, a vote narrowly failed to build an amusement park at the bottom under all the ice cream.

Yosemite National Park, is a beautiful piece of nature it is a 195 mile nature getaway from the urban life that is lived San Francisco, CA and 315 miles away from the fast pace and overwhelming life that is lived in Los Angeles CA. This place is like no other in the beauty of its nature. The park is “747,956 acres, and is the home to hundreds of wildlife species and thousands of Yosemite plants” (U.S. Nat. Park Service). Yosemite is known for so many beautiful features, from its granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, giant sequoia groves and biological diversity. And also for its two rivers which are the Tuolumne and Merced rivers. These rivers begin in the park and flow as far as west to the Central Valley.
Walnut Canyon National Monument is a twenty-mile long, 400-feet deep, and one fourth-mile wide canyon, sitting about twenty minutes outside of flagstaff, AZ. Beside the sheer size of the canyon, one other distinguishing factor makes this site fascinating. There are well-preserved ancient homes belonging to the ancestors of the Hopi, or better known as the Puebloans, that lie nestled into long horizontal cracks in the canyon walls. These dwellings are made accessible to visitors by a one and half mile long, concrete hiking trail that has been paved around and even through some of the homes.

Arizona is composed of 1 billion tons of rock. The Grand Canyon stretches 18 miles across and 277 miles long and more then a mile deep. It is so vast that is even seen from space. The river is 1450 miles long and 800 million gallons of water for every hour.
A couple of years ago during one of those, on a whim after spending a few days in Arches National Park, my wife and I detoured to the snowy, icy south rim of the Grand Canyon. We journeyed toward it from the east side but got turned back at the National Parks’ gate; the road was snowed under from there on up. After retracing our steps, we traveled down to Flagstaff and spent the night, driving in my four by four truck up to the South Rim the next day. It was an eerie experience to stand on the edge of the South Rim and see only cloud; fog shrouded the canyon’s great gap, leaving us with visual doubts that anything was really there. Defeated, we hit the Visitor’s Center and gathered information so we could go back sometime in the spring or fall with weather more to our liking.
Canyonlands National Park, immense amounts of wilderness and rock, is located at the heart of the Colorado Plateau (Canyonlands National Park-Geology). Millions of years have formed specific features to the rock and surrounding wilderness that make it so special. Throughout the park, you will find that the sedimentary rock has formed many features such as hundreds of colorful canyons, mesas, buttes, fins, arches, and spires. The Green and Colorado rivers have played a major role in the formation of many of these features. These rivers cut through the park forming two massive canyons. This further splits the park into three distinct zones. “Island in the Sky” sits to the north while “The Maze” sits off to the west and “The Needles” to the east (Canyonlands National Park Information Guide). “Island in the Sky” serves as Canyonlands’ observation tower; it allows tourists to see overwhelming vistas of the rest of the land. “The Maze,” as hinted at by the name has been described as a “30 square mile puzzle in sandstone” (NPS: Nature & Science» Geology Resources Division). This section of the park often ranks as one of the most remote and inaccessible areas of the United States. Lastly, “The Needles” is known for its diversity in rock features. Throughout this land, features such as sculptured rock spires, arches, canyons, grabens, and potholes can be seen. The varying names hint at the diversity of the land as a whole. Yellowstone Park is the world’s first national park and the 8th largest national park in the United States. The geologic history of the Rocky Mountains has come about as an aggregation of millions of years. Briefly speaking, the formation of the Rockies transpired from hundreds and millions of years of uplift by tectonic plates and millions of years of erosion and ice have helped sculpt the mountains to be what we see today. The majority of the rocks that make up the Rocky Mountains began as simple shale, siltstone, and sandstone accompanied by smaller amounts of volcanic rock which formally built up for approximately 1.8 to 2 billion years in the ancient sea. By 1.7 to 1.6 billion years, these sedimentary rocks got caught in the zone of collision between parts of the earth’s crust and its tectonic plates. The incredible heat at the core of the mountain range then recrystallized the rock into metamorphic rock by the heat and pressure of the collision forces. Eventually, the shale would be transformed into both schist and gneiss. It is believed that granite found in the Rocky Mountain parks came from pre-existing metamorphic rock created shortly after the formation of the earth. Ultimately, the high mountains of the period were slowly eroded away to a flat surface exposing metamorphic rocks and granite. This process occurred around the period of 1,300 to 500 million years ago. Lassen was established as a national park in 1916 and encompassed Lassen Peak and Cinder Cone National Monument. In 1915, the eruption of Lassen Peak caught the attention of volcanic enthusiasts. Today, its numerous hot spots, fumaroles, steaming ground and mudpots are still causing quite a stir. The park’s resources were recently rated at 71 out of 100 which is a fair condition. Being a glaciated and active volcanic area, it is rich in nourishing resources.
