In all things, success depends upon the previous preparations. And the first step in preparation to succeed is to know where we are going. Deciding what would ultimately lead you to success is the biggest question. Whether it’s your job, or it is the thing you are passionate about. Unable to deal with this dilemma may sometimes lead you nowhere. Here is where your hedgehog’s concept comes into the picture.

It may be teaching, photography, developing a new product, it can be anything.
Being passionate about your work keeps you going beyond your stretch.
Circle 2: Talent…
What can you be the best in the world at? Understanding yourself much better. Whether it is inborn genetically encoded talent or skill learnt over years helps you know the answer where your success lies.
Make sure it is equally important to know what you cannot be the best in the world at. This makes discerning much beyond your core competency. Just because you possess core competency or you have been doing it for years doesn’t necessarily means you can be best in the world at it.
Conversely, what you can be best at might not be something which you are currently engaged. Doing what you are good at only makes you good, but solely focusing on what you can do better than others will make you great.
Circle 3: Cash Flow…

For example, for business, it may be the ‘profit per customer’. In my case being an engineer at a multinational corporation, my profitability comes from my actions. My highest profitability comes by ‘output generated per action’. Try to figure out yours.
For the initial period, cash flow needs not necessarily to be the activity you are passionate and skill full about. It may be from the subsidiary activities that would back you up in you success.

According to Jim, success lays at the overlap all these three circles. But I would love to elaborate it a little further using perception based on my read through from autobiographies of successful people.
There may be four combinations formed from above three circles.
Comb 1: Passion + Talent…
It’s the combination where the liver would be happy because he is passionate about something in which he is having extraordinary talent. But he would be poor. Lack of no or poor economic engine would create financial struggle which would exhaust him and not let solely work on his
