Journal #1 Exploration Passages is a program that many people have probably never heard of or even more, they never knew that this program exist. So what made me choose the Exploration Program? Honestly, my first choice was to take Exploration Prerequisites to complete my chemistry and physic courses that I have not taken during my high school year since I needed those courses to get into nursing or dentistry. I got a rejection letter and I was really sad about it. In that moment, I was not certain of what program I want to take anymore because, like I mention earlier, the programs I wanted to get into requires chemistry and physic. I realize that I was tired of Marie-Anne ( the adult school I attended to redo my French course ) and that I really wanted to attend college so I decided to explore other program to apply to. I came across Exploration Passages! While reading the description, it got my attention that this program will help me discover other program that would suit me and I really needed that since I have to rethink of a program to take. Other than that, as a college freshman, I had no clue how to be in college and how it is …show more content…
That's basically why I took this program because apparently, Exploration Passage teaches students the necessary academic skills to succeed in college studies, strengthen their oral and written
As Zig Ziglar once said, "If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you." Basically, Ziglar is emphasizing how learning can be accomplished, only if you put your mind to it. In “Learning (Your First Job),” Dr. Robert Leamnson shares his strong belief of beginning students entering the post-secondary education. Leamnnson discusses the many ways of learning that can be used in college, such as studying, notes, assignments, and exams. Leamnson continuously discusses how no one will learn unless they want to. Learning is a biological process that relies on the brain. Just like how our bodies need maintenance, the brain does too. College is a place where you learn things that help you later. Leamnson mentions how students are responsible for succeeding in college not by just showing up, but by putting in effort towards the classes they are taking. In order to succeed in the learning of the post-secondary education process, students should be aware of how to make notes, understand what they are studying, and take assignments seriously.
My first year in the doctoral program challenged me with newfound learning in an exciting environment. I am so pleased I learned new concepts and principles about leadership. Amazingly, I retained the information better because the year involved practical work. I am grateful for the experience because I was introduced to skills applicable to my life. As I reflect on the years learning, I could not be more excited about what is to come next.
Exposition: I had a thrilling experience from when I learned how to ride a four wheeler.
Which of the tensions identified and described do you find the most interesting and why?
Composition 1 taught me crucial writing skills and helped me grow as a writer. At the beginning of the semester, my papers utilized a considerable amount of passive voice, lacked transitional phrases, and the context was not always fully developed. But throughout the class, my writing became more clear, organized, and comprehensive. Passive voice allows the object of an action to be the subject of a sentence. In my first paper, the formal summary essay, I wrote, “The term describes situations, dating back to the 1980s, when excessive numbers of blacks were found to have been exposed to highly polluted areas.” The use of “were found” and “been exposed” distort the meaning of the sentence. Passive voice confuses the reader and makes comprehension
I have furthered my knowledge about what my strengths are in writing and why they are, by taking this course. I know now that my strengths as a writer are descriptive and creative writing because the papers that required a lot of that were the easiest papers I had written. My descriptive narrative paper was my strongest since I was able to use my creative skills and I also knew more about the subject. I would be able to strengthen my descriptive and creative
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
Making the decision of going to college was an experience filled with challenges. Also, the academic curriculum itself would present me with much needed tools such as reading and writing approaches, the principals behind language learning and teaching,...
Another thing that I learned from taking this course is how to build a better writing and reading skills. Acknowledging reading and writing skills will help me to succeed in my other university courses.
After reflecting on the weekly appointment sheet and comparing it to my last couple of weeks, I found that most things stayed constant, but their are some differences. My work schedule and class times are the same, but my actual plans for study time are not. I planned to study every day after the school day, but I did not stick to it fully. Additionally, the time I set aside for the weekends for reflection on course materials became more sporadic. Especially with the recent holiday, I did not study as much time as I should have. Nonetheless, that does not mean I can not improve. I tend to get not so much overwhelmed, but I unknowingly distract myself with other activities.
Because I understood the idea without understanding the possibilities, these courses didn't change my life--instead they were a reprieve from "real" life, a reprieve from the the standards of "real" academics. Although I enjoyed other English courses, I never felt the freedom that those writing courses offered me--the opportunity to create my own understanding from a personal perspective. Instead I wrote the essays about subject matter, and in the kind of language, I thought those teachers wanted to hear. This contradiction between these two types of English courses was something I accepted without question.
Even though this was my first year taking dual credit classes, and I spent much of my time stressed and worried, I would certainly consider these past two semesters to have been a success. During this past semester alone, I was able to grow into and become, in my opinion, an amazing writer. This semester, I managed to learn how to write over many different topics with many different approaches. For example, for our first journal this semester, I was required to write a highly informational piece, and I was able to execute this task flawlessly after doing enough research. Likewise, I was able to write a book-like story and also managed to succeed. Because we were instructed to writing journals this semester, I was able
I have learned various new effective ways to ask questions to the presenters as well as to answer questions as a presenter from this module. The art of learning effective questioning and answering are mentioned below in bullet points.
“New programs are emerging in which scholars and practitioners collaborate on the development of models of instruction that hold promise for improving the college readiness of unprepared students” (Torraco, 2014). There are several methods that are used among postsecondary institutions to help determining which students are placed in remedial education such as ACT, SAT and CPT to decide if students are qualified to enroll in college level courses. The author claims that the new and improved programs such as Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST), Breaking Through and Opening Doors will assists scholars and practitioners to help students quickly increase their learning skills to move up to college level education. “The researcher becomes immersed in the classroom environment-the ebb and flow of teaching and learning: listening to students’ questions and to lively discussions; facing embarrassing silence; experience discovery, frustration, and other everyday classroom activities” (Torraco, 2014). Students tend to find themselves overwhelmed after arriving at college academically unprepared, if the new I-BEST program
All college students should partake in career exploration project because it gives structure and direction. The result from an assessment identifies and prioritizes which careers will best suit an individual person or student. It does not necessarily mean they have to pick that particular job or career; it gives them more chooses to choose from. Career exploration is a life long journey that is emotionally, physically and mentally stress full. I say lifelong because as time goes on so does an individual’s views, abilities and skills.
