Lincoln wrote both the Gettysburg Address and Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address during times of war. In both essays, Abraham Lincoln attempts to use the war effort to assure the American public of what they have to fight for. Both essays, although written for different reasons, serve to inspire the audience not to give up on the values that helped to found America.
In both the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address, President Abraham Lincoln uses biblical allusions to relate all American people together. He states in the Second Inaugural Address that all people “read the same Bible and pray the same God” so as to show a common American connection (Lincoln).
