Allying gender roles with toys is actually a lot more insidious than most people give it credit for. Especially since what parents could actually do to reduce its effect is not as deep as one might think. The urge to buy a particular toy does not just come from advertising or marketing or even just what the parents buy for their kids, it comes from the selection or taste in toys of a child's peers as well. It creates the notion in the generation of children being marketed to that some things are meant just for boys and vice versa and that if you are a boy who likes a toy being marketed to girls, you are basically acting like one. Professor Emch introduce us to a really important topic gender stereotypes in ads, how we often see women’s portray the poor gender and men as the dominant. I question myself for a long time and realize that the problem comes from our childhood. The way that in the American culture and society we are immediately gendered, from the second that we are born we have our logo of boy or girl. The sex of the baby is automatically compared to a color, which is pink for girl or blue for boy. These are our first thoughts because, in our society and many others, everything revolves around gender. We genderize everything but one thing that has a big influence in our lives is a toy and the way we see them. The advertisements behind toys are the ones that force us to have stereotypes. We often see companies like Toys R Us advertise a pink kitchen set with a little girl playing with it, why could it be a boy in the ad. It’s amazing how toys ads are more divided by gender now that they were 50 years ago. I personally feel really disturb by all the ads genderizing every toy. The question is why should we gender toys ads? Who said that a Lego set was for boy and kitchen set for girls? Who tag the color pink just for girls and blue for boys? You are going to think more carefully on the situations and what to do or what to show your kids. I feel that it would help you understand that the way the toys are advertised is affecting our kids. you would realize that little boys don’t ant to play with dolls because they would call them “gay” although they really want to play with it. by reading this research you would gain the knowledge and think beyond what we see. More over you would think about your own childhood were you wanted to play with a certain toy but either that toy was advertised for a specific gender and it made you feel guilty or bad by just playing with it I just hope this research opens your mind and realize that genderizing it is an
