Introducing Me I grew up in the Philippines and after high school, I was unsure of what career I’d like to focus on. My mom encouraged me to be a nurse and that’s when I realized that I didn’t want to do anything in the medical field. After looking back at my experiences in all my classes, I realized that I’d always been comfortable with math and physics, and their applications in the real world. I thoroughly enjoyed solving for solutions to problems and thinking about other ways to come up with solutions. Other than that, I also enjoyed explaining my process to my peers and listening to their perspective on the problem and why they got it right or where they went wrong. I did two semesters of that course in my local university in my hometown, and soon enough, I realized how unhappy I was. I spent all my time hanging out with friends, dedicating myself to extra-curricular activities, and volunteering for the student government. I did all this to distract from the reality that I didn’t like chemical engineering. I knew something had to change. Luckily, the opportunity to move to the United States had come up. I wasn’t sure if I’d get accepted to any of the schools here. I didn’t know what requirements I needed to get enrolled. I was completely unprepared to adjust to the American culture, but I went anyways. I was accepted to Montgomery College and I was free to major in anything I wanted so I decided on Aerospace engineering and started over. I was inspired to be an engineer by the projects and missions that NASA has accomplished through the years. The Space Shuttle, International Space Station, and Apollo missions have allowed me to think bigger and imagine myself as one of the people who make those projects possible. Therefore, I decided to be an Aerospace engineer. Aerospace engineering provides me with opportunities to explore my interest in space and the technology that brings humans
