My journey to politics began when I became the New York state senator in 1911. I also became the governor of New York in 1929 before running for president. That same year the stock market would crash and the Great Depression would begin.
Throughout history, United-States citizens have elected several presidents, and each one of them are worth knowing for an event or an act in particular. There is an infinite amount of lessons that can be learned from other people’s mistakes, victories, and defeats. Theodore Roosevelt is one of the elected presidents, and he is worth knowing because he helped establish the Children's Aid Society, he facilitated the construction of the Panama Canal and he averted a national emergency by dealing with the 1902 coal strike. The Panama Canal now saves ships thousands of miles, and National Parks inspire people to conserve the resources of this earth. His social justice policies keep businesses honest and force them to be fair. But like all humans he had flaws. One of his major weaknesses was he thought anyone who did not agree with him was un-American, and during World War One was suspicious of German Americans. While on state Legislature, he tried to fire a judge based on corruption because he reached a verdict Roosevelt did not agree with. But Roosevelt’s great intelligence, strength, and curiosity outweighed his flaws, and it is not surprise he is considered as one of America’s greatest presidents.

When President Franklin Delano Roosevelt assumed the Presidency on March 4, 1933, he gained leadership of a deeply isolationist country struggling to survive a depression and yearning for change. When Roosevelt died twelve years and one month later, he had lifted the United States to world power status, provided recovery from economic depression, incorporated rhetoric as a means to reach the masses, and expanded the powers of the Presidency. In short, FDR had created the Modern Presidency. Through his New Deal Programs, his ability to increase the United States’ worldwide influence, his Fireside Chats, and his expansion of Presidential powers, Roosevelt became the first Modern President and established the precedent all future presidents were to follow.

Only then did the unemployment rate drastically decrease because instead of more people needing jobs, more people were needed for jobs that would help manufacture weapons for Great Britain and eventually the US. Additionally, he, in a way, hurt the economy through deficit spending. However, he expanded the federal government, and especially the executive branch, so that it could help the American people in the decades to come. He set a precedent and established a legacy that, if elected politicians remember to serve the people, will live on. Through his aggressive legislation, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt paved a road to a future where workers are respected, minorities treated equally, and government is truly “for the people.”
We think of Franklin D. Roosevelt as one of our greatest presidents. We see Roosevelt as the president that helped the American people regain faith in themselves, especially at the depth of the great Depression. They say he brought hope as he promised prompt, vigorous action after asserting this statement, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." But no one looks back to notice Roosevelt to be the president who signed an executive order to condemn, and relocate all Japanese Americans living along the West Coast to internment camps. Roosevelt signed the Japanese Americans off to be personally humiliated and in some cases, to die. During this time of World War II the Japanese Americans were not protected when they were put into the internment camps, and they were left to fight against the racial discrimination that fell upon them that caused all their pain and suffering.

F.D.R. was the 32nd president of the United States and remained in office for twelve years. He was born on January 30, 1882, at the family estate in Hyde Park, New York. His early education was by governesses and tutors, which caused him to have little contact with children his age. F.D.R. traveled frequently to Europe with his parents, lived in New York City during the winter months, and spent summers at their home on the Canadian Island of Campobello. At the age of 14, he attended a boarding school. Between 1900-1904, F.D.R. attended Harvard and attained a degree in business. While at Harvard, he fell in love with his 2nd cousin, Eleanor Roosevelt and got married in 1905. He then attended law school at Columbia, until he quit in the spring of 1907. However, he later passed the New York state bar examination and took a job at a prominent Wall Street law firm. Theodore Roosevelt was a remarkable leader. Because of what he did as a leader of America, many core idealisms of Americans exist today. He led the U.S navy around the world to show off its military might, and to reveal to other countries that the United States could amass a force anywhere they so chose to fight its enemies. Moreover, he believed that leaders are created and not born. He worked hard at everything he did. Additionally, he had such a strong resolve, that he actually trained himself to overcome asthma. In fact, would purposely make himself have asthma attacks in order to build a resistance to it. The man had such a strong will, that others around him would put their lives on the line for him, and this is how he was such an efficient leader. Roosevelt had accomplished and not every president that is put in the same situation can achieve the success that he has accomplished, even with a disability that might feel limiting. It is not easy being a leader with everyone looking up too you and expecting you to know every move. Being a great leader is taking what you are dealt with and turning it into greatness and Franklin D. Roosevelt is an exceptional example of a leader.
