The founding of the United States went through a tough time to unite a whole nation. The U.S., at many times, was almost doomed to failure. Many decisions and beneficial people kept what is known as America today alive. Some of the most unexpected people to help shape the U.S. was Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. Not like any of the other feuds between politicians at that time that ended in choice words, Burr and Hamilton ended in death. Many crucial moments occurred during the early years of America and most of the time America was simply a dream that most felt would never be accomplished. Without the influence of the men who shaped the nation, this sort of "experiment" would have failed. Joseph Ellis, writer of Founding Brothers, describes two phases that were crucial moments in the History of America. The first was the writing of the Constitution. He states that "...the primary purpose of the Constitution was to provide the framework to gather together the scattered strands of the population into a more coherent collective worthy of that designation."(Ellis 10). At this time the United states still felt tied to Britain. People still had this idea that government would become too powerful and take over their freedom. Others felt that if people had two much power, everything would get out of control. The other was the identity of the nation (Ellis 10). These two factors faced the founding fathers with a dilemma. How would they appease all of the states and how would they unify the nation? The founders had to come together for the same cause and unify in themselves before they could unify a nation. Not all the founders were unified though, and it caused problems with the central unity that had to be formed for the founding o... ... middle of paper ... ... the United Stated is still together today. No matter how many corrupt politicians or non-virtuous men take office, the men who created the Constitution created a document that would keep the people unified enough to fight through it and the people would prevail. Hamilton defended the small thought of republicanism even though there was no sure was that it would prevail. Burr was a threat to the republic and was corrupt enough to break the small unity that America had. Even though the founding fathers were considered rich white men who only cared for their self needs, they are the ones who unified the nation when no one else would of. Their form of checks and balances among each other was key to the checks and balances in the constitution. Without these men the United States would be something different and would not have as much independence as it does now.
