Three million people will never be able to take a precious breath, nor see their families again. The Vietnam War took about fifth teen years before it came to an end. Numerous of people, including our veterans believe the Vietnam War should have never happened. The Vietnam War is one of the most crucial wars to ever take place in history. There are plenty of movies based off of the Vietnam War; some fiction, and others are not. The movie “Forrest Gump” involves the Vietnam War, and A man that does all these horrendous achievements in life and in war. There are A few things in the movie that are accurate but, most of the scenes about the war are made just for entertainment, and not to show historical facts. This paper will prove to you that even though a movie is based off of a historical event doesn’t always mean it is a true story.
The movie Forrest Gump starts off on a beautiful morning where a man waiting for his bus, at a bus stop, begins a story about his life to a woman sitting next to him. His story starts off with him saying, “You can tell a person’s life by the looks of their shoes”. (Gump) The story all started off with a young boy that was unfortunately diagnosed with a mental disorder. On his first day to the elementary school he met the girl of his dreams Jenny on the school bus. Forrest and Jenny grew up with each other throughout all their struggles. Forrest helped comfort Jenny when her father was abusive towards her at home and Jenny helped Forrest with bullying; also helping him in school. One day after being chased by cruel high school boys, Forrest Gump caught the attention of the Alabama head football coach running through their practice field for his dear life. Built up tons of money, but it is a bad source for any of the historical events that it had portrayed.
Although the movie is based off real events, it has unrealistic facts on every event in the movie. Forrest Gump wasn’t a real man, and the movie wasn’t a real life story. This movie wasn’t important. The movie would make somebody think they were learning about the war, but with real research it would definitely change the mindset of the Vietnam War toward the movie. It wasn’t meant to educated viewers about history, but it was made to sell out tickets. Maybe the movie was made to show that anything is possible in life. For instance growing up people always called Forrest stupid, but that never stopped Forrest from pursuing his dreams. Momma always says, stupid is as stupid does. (Gump)
