Many of us have our own thoughts and beliefs about the formation of political parties. Originally the founding fathers didn’t see a need for political parties; it wasn’t like they never thought about them, but to them even the word “party” was anathema. They preferred a presidential election, the glue of our political system. The top voted becomes President and the second most voted for becomes Vice President. Why would political parties be needed? Wouldn’t the political parties just cause unnecessary conflicts within our government? Today some of our questions will be answered by none other than James Madison, one of our founding fathers, the 4th President of the United States, and a founder of the democratic political party.

“I do not believe so. The political parties allowed us to do some amazing things as a country. Political parties, however destructive they can be, can encourage citizens to participate in political affairs by allowing a person to find a group where they share the same beliefs as other, can mediate between the citizens and the government through checks and balances, and can help choose the right political candidates by making it hard for unqualified people to run for office.” If you could take back your decision of helping Jefferson create one of the political parties, would you? “I would not change anything I have done. Although there may have been a few bumps along the way, our country has become very successful and one of the strongest on this earth. I am happy with my decision and would make the same choice
