Forensic Science Personal Statement

The image of graduation is on the mind of many seniors, all waiting for that one moment, where we can say “we did it!”, and we can continue on with our life. Some will continue to broaden their education through vocational school, community college, or the average 4-year university. My life plans include the latter, as I am expected to be going to Michigan State University in the fall of 2017, an experience that I face with excitement and worry. University isn’t a cheap option to consider, not only does it cost the price of a small house after four years, it takes lots of time, but time I am willing to put forth in order to continue my education and help the community through my degree and profession. This recent choice was sparked by my AP Biology class, where I got intrigued by the study of cells, DNA, and other microorganisms that make up our bodies. One career that peaks my interest with these attributes is Forensic Science. As a Forensic scientist, I would be aiding the community through scientific analysis varying from civil disputes to protecting public health. If this is the career that I wish to undertake, then I will use my knowledge gained from years of college to try and make the best choices for the community. My other career path, biochemistry, also has a large impact on the community around me which is one of the reasons that I was attracted to it. With a biology degree, I would be able to pursue this field of study in which I would be studying the way that chemicals react within the cells of the human body, let it be testing new medicine that may help solve cancer or a medication that is able to fight the common cold faster and more accurately. Both of these career choices have pathways that lead to a positive impact on the community around me, mostly concerning with our everyday lives and ways of improving
