Burglary Incident: A Personal Account

Today I arrived home from a longs day of work to find that my home has been burglarized. The officers were contacted by a neighbor that seen someone running from my home earlier today. Forensics was there collecting evidence and advised me to stay out of the home. The neighbor was not able to provide a description of the perpetrator. Officer Stone interviewed me and asked if I had any enemies or if I had seen anyone around that was not from the neighborhood. I have not noticed any suspicious activity in the neighborhood. I thought all was lost and they would never catch the person that has broken into my home. Officer Stone explained that forensics located some evidence that would help us. I requested to speak to the head of forensics. CSI Mavis Jones said that she would be glad to assist me. I really wanted to know the process of analyzing and investigating the evidence. Jones stated the gum that was found could provide us with an abundance of information. She said gum could provide dental information of the perp. The hair that was found at the scene was gold. She said they will be able to find out even more from this evidence. She said the examination of human hairs in the forensic laboratory is typically conducted using light microscopy. This examination routinely involves a two-step process the identification of questioned hairs and the comparison of questioned and known hairs.
