Follow Me- I think this site would be an absolutely incredible way to make an impact in a poverty-stricken rural community and learn about the issues involving rural medicine. My grandmother lives in a small town in the Mississippi Delta, so I have seen first-hand the problems involving healthcare in her community. Working with elementary and high school students and educating them about healthy habits would be a great way to make a difference. Eventually, I want a career in the medical field, so I would love the experience of shadowing doctors in this community. After 12 hours of surgery, assisting in a large operation for a young guy with "Treacher Collins syndrome". It was aw-inspiring how the team of OMS approached the patient, constructing his orbits, grafting and correcting his dentofacial deformity. Although I was exhausted, but I enjoyed every second of the operation and felt really proud and I knew that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.

I would envision the future by providing first aid care to friends and families and would save them from highly medical bills. The journey began and I became a Registered Nurse; the first generation in my family. I have provided care to my grandparents which suffer from Diabetes. My father suffers from Hypertension and I call him daily to remind him to document his blood pressure reading and to take his daily medication. I enjoy every moment of it.
If I had unlimited money and resources I would improve and grow our local hospital system, UVA-Culpeper. Many people that live in my county refuse to go to our local hospital because it's older and some believe not as up to date and proficient as the surrounding hospitals. Working in the Emergency room for Norwegian American Hospital was a very memorable experience. Throughout my service I got the opportunity to meet people, hear their stories and provide compassion to them in their time of need. Working in the emergency is just not treating medically treating a patient, but rather connecting with them on a personal level. Over the summer, I completed my community service hours at Ohio Valley Medical Center. At the beginning, I was afraid of whether I would like it but after my first day there I could not wait to go back the following week. It gave me some experience in the hospital since I want to work in the Intensive Care Unit when I am older. I met so many volunteers, new and old, that taught me a lot about volunteering and the hospital. I would not give up my summer involvement at the hospital for anything.
Three years ago, I volunteer at the Florida hospital. It was a amazing experience to see how everyone was working together to save lives. I would like to be a part of the trip to Mayo Clinic. I think it would be fun and enjoyable. I started volunteering at the food bank and the soup kitchen in grade 9, with a nudge from my friend. During my time as a volunteer, I would ask for donations and collect any non-perishable food items. Later I would go to the Soup Kitchen, to help cook some of these items and serve them to those in need. My volunteering experience allowed me to experience the environment and face situations that I otherwise would not. Despite many obstacles in my life, my experience performing community service stands out as the most memorable. I was sixteen at the time, and just beginning my first job at a fast food restaurant. I had to learn how to balance between community service in the morning and my employment at the local Wendy’s. It was very stressful and influential at the same time.
My first experience in the service world was in eighth grade when I was a counselor at a camp for children who had cystic fibrosis. This was probably my first experience with the real world. For the first time, and to my amazement, I saw that people-even kids-were sick and dying. I realize I was extremely naive, but for some reason I thought only people outside of America were sick and dying. My life up to that point had been sheltered and dreamlike to me. I saw kids who were only a few years younger than I and who were probably living their last year. I remember when I went back the next year to see the kids off on their bus to camp not seeing some girls who were in my cabin the year before. I was horrified to find out that some of my campers had not made it through the year. Thank goodness I was able to be opened up to the suffering that was taking place so close to me. And my mother is the one I have to thank for this. Thank you for taking me to CF camp. She planted a seed which still desires to grow to this day...
I was visiting my brother in Massachusetts when I got sick on the airplane. I went to the emergency room and I was immediately admitted into the hospital. The doctor recognized my symptoms and immediately took action to medically treat my condition. I enjoyed my week stay in the hospital because the nurses and I became so close and the nurses were there for me when I needed them. The nurses kept me inform, comfort me by making me feel everything was going to be alright. The nurses that took care of me genuinely cared and guided me each step to recovery.
