Florence Nightingale’s Environmental theory is my favorite theory. The theory clearly the meaning of meaning, concept and the applications of ideas of nursing from a perspective that is different from my own view of nursing. I can say that the theory is meaningful and purposeful in my professional development as a nurse. Even though this theory is old, it has concepts that serve today's parameters, and its relevance is well-thought-out to be a landmark in the history of nursing. Most probably, the theory makes many people think differently and me being part of those who are significantly impressed and influenced.

It is true that the external factors determine the manifest behavior of a person and can be healing or because more deteriorate health problems or limitations. sickness is also caused by factors from the environment Nightingale presents the issues of health as not only the status of being well but being able to make use of all his/her abilities. Therefore, the physical factors such as food, water, clean environment, favorable, temperature, personal hygiene, clean bedding, and all other external environmental factors should be of my consideration as a nurse since this directly impacts the patient’s wellbeing. Since the roles of the nurse according to Flounce Nightingale is to manage or manipulate the environment for the person receiving care, for better health, I will use this principle in my nursing practice. Although Nightingale’s theory did not address mental illness, her theory is very important in the applications for the well-being of mentally ill people. Mental illness can be well managed with manipulation of the environment. When patients feel anxious or are stressed, or act up, a change of the environment is most likely to prevent the overt behavior. At times, the environment is the triggering factor.
