Flashing images plastered onto the screen, radio hosts and morning anchors celebrating the success of the new female Viagra, distraught women lamenting about their sex lives or lack of thereof, recently this year the FDA has approved the sale of the new drug- flibansern, created by Sprout Pharmaceuticals- commonly dubbed as the “female Viagra” after a series of multiple rejections. Flibanserin is reported to boost women’s sex drives by increasing the production of dopamine in the brain, similar to the role of the popular drug Viagra currently available as an over the counter drug in pharmacies. Though with like any drug slated for sale in the complex pharmaceutical market, flibanserin has raised the concerns of many critics who doubt the credibility of the drug and it’s intended purpose to treat patients with hypoactive sexual desire disorder, a medical …show more content…
And I find myself arriving to the same conclusion that these critics are making, the new drug flibanserin is nothing more than a placebo, a so called “sugar pill” designed to appear as a fully functioning drug for a condition that’s only been referenced online in obscure medical circles over the past few years and there haven’t been any medical cases in which patients were actually classified with such a disorder and find that flibanserin is nothing more than a marketing scam. Flibanserin is a drug designed to treat Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder in premenopausal women. Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder or HSDD, is the lack or complete absence of sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity with associated distress. Unlike Viagra, which increases men’s sexual performance by increasing blood flow, Flibanserin is meant to stimulate the brain and increases its output of dopamine, the feel good chemical that a section of our brain produces whenever we eat something we enjoy, create an enjoyable and lasting

Yet medical writers voiced more than a certain anxiety as to how to regulate marital pleasure, especially for the female partner. The conjugal "genital act" may have been the best medicine in preventing hysteria and maintaining general health, but only when dispensed in exactly the right dosage. Too much or too little could also unleash fatal female instincts, making marriage not the cure to a woman 's debauchery, past or future, but rather the gateway. Thus, while for men marriage itself seemed to offer enough of a cure for unregulated passion, for women another layer of surveillance was needed: enter the husband, dispenser and moderator of pleasure and passion. Sildenafil Citrate, more commonly known by the brand name Viagra, has become one of the most commonly prescribed drugs in America. ...s little information about the possible benefits of the study or the side effects. The side effects proved to be significant (gastrointestinal complains, headache, and an elevation of alanine aminotransferase), while the benefits were minimal. This situation emphasizes the need for a balanced approach when it comes to drug clinical trials.
Sex is a beautiful thing that happens between two people, but sometimes sex can become addictive, and like with any other addiction, it can ruin lives. Patricia is in her mid-thirties, and to those who know her, she is a soccer mom with a successful career. But after her marriage ended due to her husband’s affair, Patricia became insecure, and started exploring dating sites on the internet – soon, Patricia was going on dates, sex dates - and in an interview with the Philadelphia Weekly, she admits that she is addicted to sex, and there is a problem. The American Psychiatric Association and Diagnostic (APAD) and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR) don’t recognize the abuse of sex as an addiction. Although not recognize as an addiction, the abuse of sex has the same qualities as drug addiction and should be recognized as a medical condition.
Health Watch (2004) states girls tend to lean towards the medications which are like ‘hypnotics’ while boys lean towards the stimulants.
Who should be responsible for stopping the 120 million sperm that are released during a male orgasm from fertilizing a female’s egg? The context of that question has been a societal debate in terms of the consequences of unplanned pregnancy and whether it is a female, male or both sexes responsibility to practice “safe sex”. Introducing the birth control pill for women in the 1960s created a huge controversy between sexual conservatives and the women who would benefit from the pill, but the responsibility still remained in the hands of women. However, as medicine has advanced and the possibility of a male birth control pill has amounted, many wonder if the same issues would arise if a male birth control pill did in fact become available. In order to understand the effects on society of both individual female and male responsibilities it is essential that the women birth control pill is discussed, the male pill and lastly, what the stigmas and potential effects of both birth control pills mean.
The placebo effect has been one of the most interesting but irritating topics within biomedical science for over the past 60 years. Through this speech I wish to inform and educate while I discuss the placebo effect and cover what it is, how it works and why that is.

However since fluorine-18 is unstable it must decay to form a positive beta particle (or positron) and an oxygen-18. This is done inside the human body as the Fluorine and pharmaceutical accumulate in the tumour.
Conclusion Placebos are currently often employed, effective devices to determine significant effects in clinical trials. However, not all clinical trials are suitable for use of placebos, as they have strong placebo effect and aim to discover a treatment for a specific disease of which is restricted due to using placebos for sufficient and prompt investigation. Consequently, appropriate conditions and justifying placebo use are vital in clinical trials, which should be beneficial, safe and valid for patients who are in both treatment and control groups. Keeping these in mind and sufficient discovery of medical treatment is highly desired.
The truth, however, is that the general population of men in this country is getting older. The proverbial baby-boomers are on the cusp of reaching a stage in their sexual life where dysfunction is no longer a weakness in ‘littler’ men, but a reality. As such, erectile dystfunction (or impotence) has become a headlines making issue, from the physiological explanations behind it to the social implications that come with being impotent.
