Flex lunch — now in its second year — has been a staple of day-to-day student life in Center High School. CHS students have all the convenience in the world to decide which club they want to join during flex lunch. However, compared to its first year, flex lunch has seen a significant dip in the number of clubs available to students.
If we are to see the full potential of flex lunch, then there needs to more clubs. Sponsoring teachers are plentiful, but student activities are minimal. However, this does not have to be minimal if only students developed ideas for the different types of clubs they want.

Lately, the board members at Hatch Valley High School are not liking the idea of an open campus for lunch. The topic of discussion has been to have a closed campus. Closed campus is not a good idea and it is not needed at Hatch Valley High School. First of all, lunches offered by the school are not appetizing. Second, students need to be able to leave school for a bit for some type of relaxation. Lastly, some students may have responsibilities to take care of during those 30 minutes of lunch.
One process could be only allowing students in good standing to be allowed off campus. If the students is not allowed to play in extra curricular then why should they be allowed to leave for an open lunch. Along with the students in good standings, check attendance after the lunch. If a students does not return after they have left for their lunch revoke the privilege for some time. Even just a week can prove to a student the importance of responsibility to return on time, very similar to a work place. Or if that plan does not work allow the students parents to chose wether the student can leave for open lunch, or is restricted to the school grounds. And possibly have the student or parent pay for a off campus lunch pass, similar to the parking passes currently being used. Even just having an age restriction only allowing upper class man to leave, as they are more likely to be responsible with their time and have better time management then the younger students. Although rules can be made, the time is much needed for a student to drive and get food. One solution to this problem would be to cut out seminar. Many students don't use seminar time wisely, or at all. So letting the time be used in a lunch scenario would help all students, and still allow the students needing help to get help after school. Wholesome lunches are vital in maintaining a healthy metabolism and give children energy for the rest of the school day. With the implementation of the “Healthy Kids Hunger-Free Act” schools are not serving as many lunches and participation is decreasing. One thing that could help is we get to choose where we sit more often because people get mad at each other if they are seated together for to long. Having an off-campus lunch period would allow for students to see their friends outside of class, especially friends they don’t get to see at all throughout the day. One may argue that this is not important because students get to see their friends during class, but class time is supposed to be reserved for doing schoolwork and studying, as every teacher would claim. Although kids may have some time in class to talk, they still are limited as to how much. The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is used by students throughout the nation and is constantly under evaluation to give students a healthy and balanced meal. The program regulates and standardizes the lunch provided at all public schools, and even some private schools. Through the NSLP, it is ensured that school lunches are (generally) the same from school to school. The NSLP makes certain that a nutrient-rich lunch is available to all students that attend these NSLP using schools throughout the nation. Though it receives a great deal of controversy, this program is found efficient by parents and supplementary to children and adolescents alike.
On April 18 and 19 Principal Mario Acosta explored the idea of cutting down to only two lunches instead of three by asking everyone who usually has B lunch to all go to A lunch. Having three lunches causes many problems for students and teachers so by eliminating a lunch altogether would solve them. Having two lunches next year is the way to go.
For hundreds of years it has been recognized that not all learning takes place in the classroom. Students mental and social development also occurs outside the classroom in athletics, music, and clubs. No matter what club the student is involved in, he/she fosters organizational, interpersonal, communication, planning, critical thinking, financing, and evaluation skills. A club gives students the opportunity to combine components of their mental and social development into personal action. These students have opportunities to test their skills and talents in different situations. Students will always work together to set goals, develop action plans for achieving those goals and implement those plans. Doing so, students could develop and maintain working relationships and friendships. The soul of a club is the students, but it also consists of many things that happen behind the scenes.
