Five Essential Truths The poet Richard Rohr wrote a five line poem about what he called “five essential truths”. The poem’s ideas are what he considers true. It is about life and ideas about the way we should live it. Actually, I agree with him and I will explain the reasons. “Life is hard”. At the very beginning of our lives, we were inside our mothers, but after a short period of time, we get out of them, and I consider that is a difficult moment in anyone’s life. Life outside of the womb is quite different. Indeed, there is a new world, which there is not just one human being. It is you and many others. This fourth essential truth could have two possible meanings, I reflect. I might regard, first that we are not in control of ourselves all the time and secondly, that nobody or nothing controls us either. Moreover, I agree with him if this line is related to what I just wrote. In life, there are some situations that could make us examine that we lose what we call “control” under those sudden situations. A tiny complication could make us react strange even without analyzing it. Besides, if he is referring to nobody controls us, it is also true because a person could presume “I control the world”, or “a country” but the thoughts, feelings or ideas are not under nobody’s control just under God’s control. Additionally, “You are going to die” is the last truth. People should know we all will die once. It is not fundamental to go deep into this truth, since that is something we all have for sure. A truth that is awesome is the fact that we do not realize we are not alive forever and it causes problems because people cultivate not so good feelings and tend to hurt others. We will pass away once, so we always should remember it. If we accomplish that, we will enjoy more each day as if it would be the last one in our life. Thus, we will do well to others.
