Introduction
When signing up to take Women and Gender Studies 2500, I never would’ve thought how I would gain so much passion and so much love for something such as feminism, for something like equality. I learned that the world has a pretty uneven spectrum. We have conformed to a spectrum that only has two sides when there is always more to the story. We have accepted one thing as normal and then we try to shun and shame those who possess differences, even in the smallest detail. We have ignored the cries of women of all colors and the LGBTQ community. We have shunned and beaten those who we consider different (the LGBTQ community). Those who we considered weak (women), and unequally treated those who do not conform to what we accept as normal …show more content…

For many this is the norm and the way things are supposed to be, but we are in the 21st century and things have begun to change. There are women in society today who are the primary breadwinners and men who act as the housewives. There are even families that opt to put their child in day care while both parents work. For many people, they can’t accept this change and look down on anyone who may have a family that is organized in this way. (Straight girl and gay man).” I believe that this dynamic changes once the men are no longer under the umbrella of straight. Everything that a gay, bi, or transgendered man does is scrutinized just as a woman; they are watched and judged by the public, no matter what they do. For example on page 3037 after Benjamin and Jake had sat down for dinner at a restaurant, Jake is displeased by the way everyone is looking at them, judging them. Then, on page 3077 the waitress approaches them and tells them “You two are disgusting, you know… does your father know what you are…” She talks to them as if they are an abomination, as if they aren’t human and should be ashamed of something so natural as their love for each other. Not only does she insults them, but also ask if their father knows “what they are” as if they are some sort of people killing monster. If this were a man and a woman couple where the man seemed to abuse the woman, many people wouldn’t have even questioned them. But, because they
