Sometimes I feel like I’ve been shot in the head in school listening to countless lectures, working on piles of homework, and heading to work the rest of the day. Realizing that I’m 18 to become a young, responsible adult with years of college ahead, I live by this mantra, “some lessons in life are best learned through pain.”
People who work fast food service deserve more appreciation. Technically, “Dairy Queen” is “fan food” not “fast food.” Crew members start at minimum wage. I remember my first day like I was Cady Heron, entering North Shore High School. Everything was bizarre looking and everyone was talking about the new girl.
Training was difficult. I had to memorize ingredients, work unfamiliar machinery, open, close, clean, and stock. The second week rolled in, and I never felt so much anxiety in my life. It was a humid day, I left school, headed to work, and noticed eight cars lined up in drive thru, and a full lobby. I had to work by myself and run back and forth taking orders. I was constantly slipping, making numerous mistakes. “Sometimes we must fail

I never felt proud of myself. I received my transcript in the mail, and earned all straight A’s. I learned that every experience has meaning and it happens for a reason. God puts his strongest soldiers through the toughest battles. I realized that we must fail to know, hurt to grow, lose to gain, because some lessons in life are best learned through pain.
I have chosen Iowa State because of its remarkable education and diversity. I believe Iowa State holds the same values and goals as I do. I strongly feel like my purpose in life is to shape the world and to make an impact through my future career. Iowa State is known for its creativity, science, and technology programs and I believe I have chosen the right school for architecture. I feel like I will be accepted with open arms at Iowa State, and help change the world someway through
Day after day, I work at Home Depot. I’ve worked at Home Depot for 6 months. My position there is a cashier. A few months have gone by and all I do is show up and do my job as a cashier. The cashiers have someone who runs the front end along with every register in the store, and that person is a head ashier. After what I see the head cashiers go through, I would never want to be a head cashier for the rest of my life.
‘Fast Food Nation’ by Eric Schlosser traces the history of fast food industry from old hot dog stands to the billion dollar franchise companies established as America spread its influence of quick, easy and greasy cuisine around the globe. It is a brilliant piece of investigative journalism that looks deep into the industries that have profited from the American agriculture business, while engaging in labor practices that are often shameful.
I would deal with this working environment every day. With so much responsibility and work to complete, my manager would sometimes think that it was fine if I would work the oven on my shift. So now I have to hand out all of the prizes, fix any broken game and ones that were acting up, hand out lost tokens to customers, get the pizza out of the oven to cut it and call it over the intercom to the customers.
Since my first report card, I have always taken pride in having high grades. It was not until freshman year in high school that I started to receive undesirable grades by my standards. While most students would not mind having my report card, those few letters had deteriorated my emotional state because I felt as if I was no longer part of the intellectuals.
In the introduction to the book “Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal”, Eric Schlosser focuses on the fast food industry while in “The Good and Bad News about Obesity: It’s No Longer Rising, but It’s More Dangerous than Ever” Alexandra Sifferlin focuses on the obesity epidemic, both in the US. In particular, Schlosser discusses unethical reasons behind the success of fast food industries, as well as their destruction of the socio-economic aspects of the American rural life while Sifferlin discusses the latest prevalence and mortality rates of obesity. A careful examination of the two articles reveals a motive of public good in the two authors. Both Schlosser and Sifferlin are motivated by
According to resent studies, Americans eat fast food for the convenience, mostly in the Western and Eastern part of the USA and people that cook and eat at home they are more traditional, for example in the Midwest. Fast food has been part of life in the USA for over 60 years. It has become extremely popular by Americans simply for the convenience.
their hands on fast food in pratical minutes. Even in worksite places fast food is close and is very tempting to eat. Who would not want to trade a peanut butter sandwich for a juicy burger and large
Johnson, I gave all my time and energy into becoming a better student, and a better person. My freshman year, I finished with over a 4.0 GPA. This set the trend for me throughout my high school career. My junior year, I was accepted into National Honors Society, which was for not only my grades but my community service and my leadership qualities that I had displayed in high school thus far. I am very grateful that I had a teacher who would be honest with me and make me realize what I needed to do in order to be
Gifts, people, pets, memories and actions are some of the countless things people remember in their high and low points in life. From time to time, I dwell on the things that impacted my life, and the most meaningful one of which was attaining my high school diploma. To begin with, I was not fond of school when I reached high school. Then, I made a decision to join the Armed Forces and did not know I needed a high school diploma to join. Eventually, I ended up with a high school diploma and an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, that I now find extremely helpful, as I am in college. Given these points, I can say that I am extremely proud of myself and I am looking forward to accomplish much more in the near future.
David Zinczenko makes a compelling argument regarding the issues of the fast food industry causing the life sentence of obesity for children. Perhaps, the arguments provided in his essay could have been well founded in 2003, however over a decade has passed, the industry has changed, and such arguments no longer hold ground. I will argue that in 2015, the responsibility of monitoring the problems which arise from fast food consumption now lies in the hand of the "Eater," not those who dish it out.
For millions, fast food restaurants are the source of positive associations with birthday parties, play dates and accessible comfort food. For others, they represent a lifeline meal on a busy day, or the secret to quieting a cranky toddler on a long trip because hurrying residents of cities have no time to cook a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner. Fast food presents even in the lives of people who are trying
Let’s flash back in time to before our college days. Back to then we had lunch trays filled with rubbery chicken nuggets, stale pizza, and bags of chocolate milk. A backpack stacked with Lisa Frank note books, flexi rulers, and color changing pencils. The times where we thought we wouldn’t make it out alive, but we did. Through all the trials and tribulations school helped build who I am today and shaped my future. From basic functions all the way to life-long lessons that helped shape my character.
I am proud of myself for picking team members that I didn’t previously know before this class. I had friends in this class but chose not to work with them because we learned that this is usually not the best idea. I’m proud of myself for going out of my comfort zone and introducing myself to new people and meeting a team to work with. If I were to change anything/done things differently I would have been a little tougher on certain team members. Sometimes people would get very controlling or slack off
I was able to overcome many problems and challenge myself in different aspects. At the very beginning of the year, I was very sensitive and having a bad experience meant a bad life to me. Later on, I started to realize what I am doing in school, and why I am here… I understood that life without ups and downs means you're died.
While I was in high school my friend and I decided to get a job for the summer. We applied at a local fast food restaurant and we were both hired. We started our training right away along with several other people this being a new restaurant. The manager was very nice and liked to have fun, which made this job actually enjoyable. Things were going good when we heard that the area manager was going to come to see how the new store was performing. The crew was introduced to John, Area Manager, who began coming on a daily basis. This is when the chaos began.
