Sometimes I feel like I’ve been shot in the head in school listening to countless lectures, working on piles of homework, and heading to work the rest of the day. Realizing that I’m 18 to become a young, responsible adult with years of college ahead, I live by this mantra, “some lessons in life are best learned through pain.”
People who work fast food service deserve more appreciation. Technically, “Dairy Queen” is “fan food” not “fast food.” Crew members start at minimum wage. I remember my first day like I was Cady Heron, entering North Shore High School. Everything was bizarre looking and everyone was talking about the new girl.
Training was difficult. I had to memorize ingredients, work unfamiliar machinery, open, close, clean, and stock. The second week rolled in, and I never felt so much anxiety in my life. It was a humid day, I left school, headed to work, and noticed eight cars lined up in drive thru, and a full lobby. I had to work by myself and run back and forth taking orders. I never felt proud of myself. I received my transcript in the mail, and earned all straight A’s. I learned that every experience has meaning and it happens for a reason. God puts his strongest soldiers through the toughest battles. I realized that we must fail to know, hurt to grow, lose to gain, because some lessons in life are best learned through pain.
I have chosen Iowa State because of its remarkable education and diversity. I believe Iowa State holds the same values and goals as I do. I strongly feel like my purpose in life is to shape the world and to make an impact through my future career. Iowa State is known for its creativity, science, and technology programs and I believe I have chosen the right school for architecture. I feel like I will be accepted with open arms at Iowa State, and help change the world someway through
