At the end of the Roman Empire there was many things that came about and helped to further the advancement of western civilization. Like for instance the fall of Rome brought about the de-centralization of Europe. Although there were some time of war during this transition ultimately it brought about universities and the love of learning. Because of the love of learning the Age of Exploration was brought about where many would want to go and see the world and learn something new.
Charlemagne Crowned Emperor – 800
Charlemagne was crowned Emperor of the Romans on December 25, 800, by Pope Leo III. The Roman Empire still existed under Charlemagne but the name was it was called the Byzantine Empire. The Babylonian Captivity of the Church was a period when the court of the pope was moved from Rome to Avignon. Many scholars believe that popes during this tome were enslaved there by the king of France. This caused an uproar throughout the Catholic Church causing England and France to go to war.
Black Death – 1347-1351
Because of the Black Death the advancement and changes we see that brought about more modern medicine and it also changed public health and hospital management. Educators began putting a greater concern on clinical medicine based on physical science because of their frustration with the Black Death diagnoses that revolved around astrology and superstition. It was because of the plague that many chose to learn more and higher education grew. New schools were established and the learning and gaps in education left with the Black Death.
