Explore the Medicinal Benefits of Green Tea
Tea, especially green tea, has been touted in many sources as having a plethora of medicinal properties. Much of the hype surrounding tea is in fact true. Tea is not a wonder drug, but it can combat some of the causes of the most deadly diseases in the United States. For over 4000 years it has been used as a medicine in China (Cheng 2397). By taking a cue from the Asian cultures, we in America are beginning to discover the benefits of this drink.
Since green tea is not fermented, and thus enzymes do not destroy many of the polyphenolic compounds, it contains more beneficial compounds than either oolong or black tea. Tea is so powerful in fighting disease because the polyphenolic compounds it contains work as antioxidants. There are thousands of antioxidants compounds that help to inhibit the oxidation reactions caused by free radicals. The antioxidants latch onto free oxygen particles in the body and prevent them from doing damage to cells or tissue. The most prevalent antioxidant in green tea is a compound called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (Voelker 262).
Epigallocatechin-3-gallate is unique because in lab tests it induced cell death in cancer cells, but left healthy cells unharmed. Researchers at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio exposed it to cancerous skin, lymph, and prostate cells from both humans and mice and to healthy human skin cells. The compound killed the cancerous cells, and left the healthy cells untouched. Present in just 2 mg of green tea, epigallocatechin-3-gallate is a powerful chemical (Voelker 262).
Green tea doesn’t always have to be ingested to combat cancer. A study published in the August 2000 issues of the Archives of Dermatology found that green tea polyphenols have both anti-inflammatory and anticarcinogenic properties on the skin (Katiyar, et al. 989). Experimental studies conducted on mouse skin found the polyphenols afforded protection against both chemical carcinogensis as well as photocarcinogenis (Katiyar, et al. 989). This information could be big news for those worried about the detrimental effects of the sun and daily chemical exposure on their skin.
In all, Tademy does a great job in transporting her readers back to the 1800s in rural Louisiana. This book is a profound alternative to just another slave narrative. Instead of history it offers ‘herstory’. This story offers insight to the issues of slavery through a women’s perspective, something that not so many books offer. Not only does it give readers just one account or perspective of slavery but it gives readers a take on slavery through generation after generation. From the early days of slavery through the Civil War, a narrative of familial strength, pride, and culture are captured in these lines.
In a person’s life, one must overcome obstacles that have the potential to either negatively or positively impact their future. Whether it is a serious obstacle, such as being involved with drugs, or a minor obstacle, such as procrastinating an important essay for the night before it is due, the choices people make can influence the way they live their lives. In Wes Moore’s inspiring non-fiction book, The Other Wes Moore, two boys with the same name start off living a few blocks away from one another, but turn out to be completely different individuals. At first, they were both troublemakers, getting in trouble with the law. However, as time progressed, the author, Wes Moore, became a Rhodes scholar and quite successful, while the other Wes Moore was sentenced to life in prison. The difference between these two men was the surrounding influences that shaped their growth as people. In a person’s growth, the most important factors are a positive role model in a positive environment because a positive role model will provide the path to success and will aid that person in achieving prosperity.
Skin cancer is a significant public health issue in Australia. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun in the UVA and UVB wavelengths is the primary cause. Australia has been a world leader in efforts to protect the ozone layer, the main line of defense against ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun. Ultraviolet radiation induces the formation of thymine dimers that cause mutation of skin cells if not repaired before DNA replication. Mutations of tumor suppressor genes can lead to uncontrolled cell growth. Ultraviolet radiation also causes immunosuppresion that allows skin cancers to become established. Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma are types of skin cancer caused by sun exposure, though each form is associated with a different pattern of exposure. Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, due to a combination of tropical latitude, fair-skinned population, outdoor lifestyle, and high amount of ambient ultraviolet radiation. Widespread opinions about tanning and health benefits of sunlight lead many Australians to intentionally overexpose themselves to the sun. State cancer councils have developed sun safety and awareness campaigns, such as “Slip! Slop! Slap!” and “SunSmart,” to educate the population about sun exposure and encourage early detection of skin cancers. Gradual changes in knowledge and behavior indicate that the fight against skin cancer can be won.
The author Wes Moore and Wes Moore took two different pathways. What is upsetting is the fact that the people around both boys were either influencial or reserved. These people were constantly impacting them. It was stated that, “The second important aspect of networks is the actual substance of relationships as expressed through their function, including the kind and amount of support given and received by members,” (Roschelle, 1997). Both Wes’ were born in the same environment. What made their stories end differently were the actions taken by those around them. This means, the author Wes Moore was sent away by the help of those relationships, while the other Wes Moore was left to make choices on his own.
In the book “The Other Wes Moore,” Intrinsic factors play a significant role in determining the Wes Moore’s success. This narrative explains the intrinsic challenges that both Wes Moore’s had to overcome in order to succeed and it explains how the people surrounding them, the was main reason that the author was led to a successful life and the other Wes Moore was led to failure.
The problem of failing to fall asleep or sleep for enough hours has been there since the ancient time. However, this sleep disorder has become more common now than then, which is a risk to our health. Taking a cup of sleepytime tea is said to help in treating this disorder naturally. Sleepytime tea is a drink that is prepared from a blend of ingredients that include herbs with sedative properties to sooth and help you relax for a healthy sleep.
Most parents remembered hearing about the importance of protecting their children from the sun, yet children are still playing in the sun without sunscreen or protective clothing. Many people these days are not taking skin cancer seriously after knowing its significance. Skin cancer has been a growing problem in the United States and millions of people have suffered from it every year. The three most common skin cancers are Melanoma, Basal cell, and Squamous cell, which can cause bumps, sores, growths, etc. Skin cancer is a deadly disease with many causes, but the advantage is that it can be prevented.
The food that a person ingests often determines whether or not that person is at risk to have or develop cancer. Certain foods promote different cancers in different parts of the body. Diets high in animal protein especially promote cancers of the liver, large intestine, kidney and breast. Diets high in total fat (animal as well as plant - based) are particularly linked to cancers of the large intestine, prostate, breast and pancreas. Inadequate intakes of plant antioxidant vitamins (beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E and many other similar substances) are implicated in many cancers. Food components can prevent cancer by mopping up highly reactive chemicals (free radicals) that act throughout the cancer process inhibiting cell division and enhancing the immune system, especially the so-called "natural killer cells". Food components also reduc...
Blanche DuBois, the protagonist of the play, is introduced to the readers in the first scene, where she makes a surprise visit to her sister and her sister’s husband, Stella and Stanley. She is introduced as a fragile woman who the readers begin to feel sympathy for her. She had been asked to leave her job, and she lost the family estate. The readers ...
...f her time. She wrote the novel at a time where women were incredibly limited. They were essentially accessories to society’s men. Fantomina sheds light on the error of such ideologies. It shows women to be intelligent, powerful beings, while shedding light on the weaknesses of men. Haywood shows great contrast between society’s perception of the ideal women, through Fantomina’s mother and the convent, and the rebellious main character that disregards these societal norms. In doing so, Haywood shows her readers the potential of women. Given that the majority of the readers of novels were young women and mothers, Fantomina must have been a relevant book for that audience. It seems likely that Haywood wrote such a powerful book to, in a sense, inspire her female readers to be strong, independent controllers of their own lives.
While tea is said to be healthier, it is the second most consumed morning beverage. Why is that? On an average day, only one in five American adults drink tea. The average tea drinker takes in more than twenty times more flavonoid antioxidants per day than non-tea drinkers. So those non-tea drinkers are missing out on their daily helping of flavonoid. Caffeine in tea isn't as much of an issue as it is in coffee.
Hydrogen fuel cells are an alternative source of energy. Unlike fossil fuels, hydrogen fuel cells have no direct negative effects on the environment. A hydrogen fuel cell works by combining hydrogen molecules with oxygen molecules to produce water and energy. A catalyst, like platinum, splits the hydrogen molecules into protons and neutrons to combine with the oxygen. The hydrogen molecules are fed through an anode, while the oxygen molecules are fed through a cathode. The molecules combine in a central chamber to form water. The water is released from the top of the chamber, and the energy is released from the bottom.

Frequently a person believes that herbal medicine is more naturally safe and soothing than drugs. Nevertheless, there’s no reasonable defense about this. Though many consumers trusted herbal medicine much more than the synthetic medicine because it’s safe and effective, but like anything else, it has its own limitations too. There are several hostile issues related to herbal medicine that has been quite alarming. Notwithstanding, majority of the most popular herbs are at least nearly safe.
