The North and South, at one point in time, had slavery. They both fared well from slavery, except the North had other plans. Rather than to continue making slaves, they decided to make the North a slave-free place. The South, however, did not agree with this and continued with a slave nation. Overtime, the North tried to persuade the South to release the slaves and make them free again. Again, the South refused to for they wanted slaves, even though they did not really need them. Because of this, a war was declared between the North and the South. The goal was to get the Southern slaves free and make the U.S. a free nation. The war lasted a very long time, until it ended. The South had, unfortunately, won this war. The nation was still divided
