Driving age should/should not be raised to twenty one

It is very well said, speed thrills but it really kills. This is really applicable to all the young boys and girls who do not care about the countless risks associated with speed. Should/should not driving age be raised to twenty one has long been a topic of discussion. There are a lot of youngsters who believe that driving should not be restricted to a specific age. For them, anybody can drive when he learns to drive. For most of the adolescents driving is a source of fun, thrill and never ending enjoyment. In many countries like Russia the driving age has raised to 21. Many people die every day in road accidents and majority of them are of teen agers. . According to a report presented by National Highway police America in 2011, the majority of car accidents happen in country are due to inexperienced and young drivers. Unfortunately, the majority of car accidents happen owing to inexperienced teenager drivers. The maximum death rate for driver is between the age group 16 to 20 (Grader, 2008). The young boys and girls usually drive the cars of their parents. They start driving without learning it or taking proper driving classes. This thing gives birth to a lot of problems. Adolescents usually think from their from their hearts and not from their minds. Before reaching 21 they believe that they know more than their elders and take driving as an innate quality. For them driving is not a serious matter rather it is a source of fun and entertainment. They always relate driving with speed and do not like cautious and slow driving. They do most of the things to impress their fellow beings. They do speedy drive without considering its consequences. Young drivers owing to their little experience not only play with their own lives but also put others’ lives to risk. Young drivers are no less than adult’s nightmare. Lack of maturity and experience makes it difficult for parents and other mature drivers to share road with them (Triplett, 2005). The world can save lives by keeping the driving age at 21. The young boys of 18 to 20 years age group play loud music, attend phone calls and take alcohol while driving. They perhaps consider these things as a part of fashion. Music, calls and alcohol divert their attention from driving and consequently major accidents occur.
There are a lot of youngsters who are of the view that road accidents happen every day almost in all parts of the world. Adults also do rash and irresponsible driving. Adults also cause accidents on roads so it is not a wise idea to always blame adolescents for road accidents and to rise driving age to twenty one. For them driving age should not be associated with age but should be linked to driving skills and expertise of the driver (Wood, 2000).
