The sharing of opinions has always been a very effective way to spread ideas and gain a better understanding of other people. However, a vast difference of opinions has lead to arguments over who is truly correct. Because some people hold more powers than others, those on top have taken it upon themselves to filter what gets spread to the public. Through the censorship and banning of books, people’s right to hold their own opinion has been taken away. Because the ideas present in all different types of texts hold great significance to the people who read and analyze to find their meaning, they should remain available for everyone to explore. Politicians get cautious when there is peace, especially soon after a war finished or one is assumes to start, because they want to assure that any ideas that could stir resistance are prevented from spreading. They also become careful during times of war because they want to stop texts that criticize the government from getting to the general public as it could cause people to stop supporting them. Also, politicians try to stop texts that condemn any aspects of their allies because they could agitate them and cause a loss of support (Hamilton 26). Nevertheless, this mindset is dangerous because it prevents people from fully embracing their rights. In the United States, the First Amendment promises many freedoms that are being taken away when there is widespread censorship of ideas (Banned & Challenged Books). Because every person has their own opinions on topics, there will always be disagreement on whether or not a book is acceptable to be read, sold, taught, et cetera, meaning that banning of books should be stopped now or else it will never
