1. Describe major issues in child development. How might individual differences be affected by physical, cognitive, personality or social development? Individual difference would be affect by physical, cognitive, personality and social development because everyone is born in a different environment and in different family dynamics. Physical development is how the body was developed, like the brain, nervous system, etc. This can vary by how the infant developed in the womb and if they were born with birth defects. Then cognitive development is based on someone’s thinking abilities. This can be how they develop language, problem solving skills, memory and their intelligence. This can change from region to region because different countries have better educational opportunities than other countries. Next, personality development, is how someone acts, which can change by the people the child’s been around and where they grew up. The psychodynamic perspective deals with how memories/inner forces effect an individual’s development. Then the behavioral perspective focuses more on how an individual reacts on their environment. Whereas cognitive perspective is more on how there surrounding influence the way they think about a topic. The contextual perspective is the relationship people have with their surroundings and how it influence the cognitive development, social development, etc. Finally the last perspective, evolutionary perspective, is based on how the environment cause’s someone to change their behavior due to changing environment. This semester in Child Development has helped me a great deal. I came into this class wanting to be a Child Development teacher at the high school level. I am leaving this class with the same ambition to become a Child Development teacher. I have learned so much by taking this class and I know it will all be helpful in the future once I am standing at the front of a classroom. The first is the need for love and security, which has a lasting effect on all future relationships the child, will have. Without a loving and nurturing start to childhood, the child will face difficulties in attaching to any other child or adult in the future. Comparing the Behavioral Perspective and the Cognitive Perspective The behavioral perspective is the idea that if psychology was to be a science, then it must focus on events, which are directly observable on behavior, rather than on mental life. The behavioral perspective maintains the primary emphasis on observable behavior and its relation to environmental events. Behavioral perspective is through reinforcement, which is the idea that patterns of emitted behavior can be selected by their consequences. Cognitive perspective is centered on the description of the nature and development of the representation of knowledge. It comes from three points of view, which are the theory of information processing, the inability of behaviorism to provide a comprehensive account for all aspects of human behavior, and the invention of the computer.
As children grow towards adolescence they go through many stages of development. Child development refers to the stages of physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and language growth that occurs from the birth to beginning of adulthood. All aspects of a child's development may be affected by many different factors, including a poor learning environment, lack of social interaction, cultural background differences, abuse, and loss of a parent. All of the before mentioned examples can affect the child's maturation, "a biological growth process that enables orderly changes in behavior, relatively uninfluenced by experience" (Myers 172). Children grow and mature at very different rates, some faster than others, which is why it is necessary to understand the importance of the different types of child development. Though all parts of child development are important, it is probably language learning that is most important to a child's development as a whole.
The five major theoretical perspectives in psychology are biological, learning, cognitive, psychodynamic, and sociocultural perspectives. Each one of these perspectives searches for answers about behavior through different techniques and through looking for answers to different kinds of questions. Due to the different approaches, each perspective form their own assumptions and explanations. Some perspectives are widely accepted while others struggle for acceptance.

As I personally take the time to have a reflection over the course of “Child and Adolescent Development” I find myself intrigued with the amount of knowledge I gained during this course this semester. I wanted to take the time to concentrate on three specific areas in which I felt I had the most growth, but also came as a challenge to me as well. It is important when reflecting over a course that I look at what I found to be challenging, as this was an opportunity of growth for me individually. In this paper I will review some of the main topics that I found to be interesting but also resourceful for my future aspiration not only as a family life educator but also a mother one day.
