Who Is To Blame? Many people look to blame others when a tragedy occurs. In the drama, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, there are multiple characters possible to be blamed for the tragedy, some more than others. Friar Lawrence, the Nurse, and Lord Capulet affected the tragedy the most negatively and should be blamed above the others. Friar Lawrence is the most to blame. He seemed to be very close Romeo but his actions had lead to Romeo’s death. The Friar should not have married Romeo and Juliet in the first place without the parents consent, even if he thought it would bring the families together. He created the plan for Juliet to not need to marry Paris. Their evidence could include that of all the people the illiterate servant goes to, it was Romeo and Benvolio. That Romeo and Juliet had to be of feuding houses and fall in love. Of all the woman Romeo could have met at the party, it was Juliet. That the letter to let Romeo know what the plan was never reached him. That the Friar was a little late to reach Juliet’s tomb, he was there just after Romeo died and right before Juliet woke up. That Juliet woke up only shortly after Romeo killed himself. All of these events could prove that it was just fate, but the way people acted on what circumstances fate brought upon them was their own fault. The Friar could have denied to marry Romeo and Juliet. The nurse could have stayed back instead of be a messenger for Romeo and Juliet. The Capulets and the Montagues could have tried to work their differences out especially after the Prince told them if there was another fight like that one they would die.
