I live in a world where there is no equality and people judge you based on your skin color. As a fifteen year old African American girl, I face challenges every day because of my skin color and how I act. I try to live my life free but I get stuck with stereotypes everyday and now it’s time to change. It’s time we actually talk about RACE instead of labeling an entire group and know the real meaning of racism. Racism according to Wikipedia is “the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities particular to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race.” This definition is basically stating that one race is in a higher ranking status to another is made easy to punish. In today’s world that still happens, I had an experience when I went shopping with my mother and sister one of the stores had an employee who kept asking if we were sure we could afford these items that we put in our cart . It was the most harsh thing anyone has ever done; at the end of the day she thought we couldn't afford our things because we were black. …show more content…

For an example, the New York Times wrote an article called “The Black and White Test Gap” by Christopher Jenkins and Meredith Phillips say if Black or mixed race children are raised in a white home they would be more educated. I disagree because I am an African American who is not raised in a so call “white home” and I am pretty educated. Also there is no such thing as a “white” or “black” home unless your talking about color scheme. Some African Americans have the money and could go to school they choose not to learn. Also they say that Africans Americans are below standard testing that doesn’t mean there are unintelligent.
