Have you ever wondered if someone could actually be “spoiled rotten?” Spoiled rotten can result in many different issues but the main one seems to be getting upset, or just not understanding why, when something does go that persons way. Being spoiled past the point of no return usually goes with a person that is sheltered from the reality happening around them forcing that that person to live within their own world going about life living part of a lie. A sheltered civilized society is not good for the people living within. Facing temptation and being able to turn it down is what makes Heroes different from the villains. The forest also represents all the people in society that are looked down upon or that don’t meet the certain standards of society (“Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”). This is just as true in today’s society. Most people see things that are different as a threat, thus treating it such. The wicked ways are within the dark forest and those wicked things are what test the knights on their quest. By King Arthur not sheltering his knights, and keeping them inside of Camelot, he is in a sense make his knights better men. Arthur is doing so because by going on quest, the knights find out who is really worthy and who is not. If Arthur just kept his knights within the kingdom, then there would be no way to tell who the noblest knight is or who is the least loyal. Within the dark forest lies sin, and test for the knights. Just as the Green Knight has test for Sir Gawain. Gillian Rudd wrote, “As such, this Green Knight acts as a representation of the human concept of Nature in a poem that abounds with descriptions of the physical world” (52). The Green knight did represent “nature” in a sense. The green Knight did not represent the physical parts of nature, but rather the non-physical ones. The non-physical representing sin. Knights must go out into the regular world, or the dark forest, to embark on their quest. There they will be tested in their morals and virtues. The noble knights of King Arthur’s court are constantly tested by the Dark Forest and all of its temptations, creating many different conflicts within the knight’s moral codes. Facing those conflicts and coming out on top with new found knowledge is what separates great people from average
