Understanding the Distinction Between Morality and Ethics

The difference between morality and ethics is that you first need to understand the foundation concept (morality) before moving onto the next concept (ethics). Ethics in a social system refers to a philosophy whereas morality finds application. Morality involves the impartial thoughts of another’s interests. It also utilizes one’s understanding of the differences between what’s right and what’s wrong, and to live accordingly with that understanding. Morality comes from many outside sources, for example the parental units, culture, religion, society, and education. Moralities help people in choosing a course of action whenever faced with a dilemma. The morals become a guiding force in life and help in leading a decent, disciplined life. Ethics

Starting with the individuals on the ground floor, the citizens, many people are very considerate and will share any vital information needed by the system and will fill any capacity that the system is reacquiring. This can include many citizens participating in jury duty to self-reporting local criminal activity to the police department. The next floor up on this ethical and morality elevator is the police. When the police are perceived to be working to be as ethically as possible, the communities are more likely to be open and ethical when dealing with them. The police and citizens work together on crime prevention. (Gruber, 2017) So in short, how the police interact with their community, is how the community will in turn interact with the police. The next floor is ethical/moral behaviors of the lawyers. Sometimes the lawyer’s personal moral code will find a murderer immoral, but ethics demand that the accused client be defended just as strongly as possible, even when the lawyer knows that the party is guilty and that a freed defendant would hypothetically lead to more crime. In Kayne’s report, legal ethics unfortunately must override personal morals for the greater good in a justice system in which the accused are given a fair trial and the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Ethics among lawyers should be that it is not about winning the case at all costs, but more in the lines representing the clients in the best possible way.
