I strongly absolutely do not think that College athletes should not get paid. College students should focus more on their education other than handling hundreds of thousands of dollars. College athletes should not get paid because if the athlete gets a scholarship for playing sports, then they are already getting paid from the free college tuition. People are saying that College athletes should get paid because some of the best college athletes do not earn a penny from the colleges.

First of all, College athletes receive some sort of payments from colleges. Like, athletes get fame from playing college sports. So they get endorsements from companies and they earn money from being in ads and being sponsored by companies. Also, some athletes get grants worth 100,000 dollars from their college. (Bagaria, 2012) Which isn’t too much money to handle. Speaking about handling money, it is very hard for 20 year olds to handle hundreds of thousands of dollars. “More Money More problems”(Bagaria, 2012) the problems with having too much money as a college student is you focus more on handling money and not on education. When he was a 20-year-old sophomore from Hawaii he helped the school earn millions of dollars through ticket sales, advertising, and TV deals. But like all college athletes, Mariota didn’t earn a penny. (Zissou, 2013) Even though this is true, Marcus Mariota had a full ride Scholarship and he earned lots of money from doing endorsements with companies. He got his fame from playing College football. Marcus Mariota was also a first round pick in the NFL draft because of him playing in college. Like I said in paragraph 3, 15% of college athletes said that they wouldn’t be in college if it weren’t for sports. So maybe if Marcus Mariota didn’t get a scholarship with the University of Oregon than he would not have of even went to
