One of the most unique aspects of the United States’ government is its two-party or bipartisan system of government. A two-party system includes two major political parties that are reinforced by the nation’s electoral system. The two parties of the United States are called the Democrats and the Republicans and serve as a way for the people and the government to interact, help candidates get elected to office, raise money for their organizations, and put forth their positions of policies. However, these two parties hold many similarities and differences, have different political polls based on their ideologies, are affected by the executive branch, and have been influenced by recent elections. Additionally, both parties try to provide a balance between the opposition of the other party by exposing the weakness of the opposite party and by trying their hardest to reduce conflict and tension in the social world by accommodating and encouraging voters to accept compromises in policy. However, even though both parties are centrist, there are some distinct ideological differences between the two parties. Democrats tend to be less likely to spend money on defense, believe in using funds to let students attend private schools by not using vouchers or public funds, focus more on social-welfare programs, and want to use more government money on public education and health programs of the government. Democrats also tend to want to give tax relief to lower and middle class, are against private ownership of assault weapons, and believe in broader regulations of firearm ownership. In closing, this book informs us on how the Republicans went crazy and Democrats became useless, and how it’s become a problem. The books unfolds the faults of the Republicans and Democrats “behind the scenes”, and made me more aware of the parties today.

Partisan elections can be unfair and can misinform the voter. A high legal position such as a judge should never be chosen in such a manner. Political gridlock and dysfunction is a central aspect of studying Congress because it determines a huge part of how they function and their general effectiveness. When it comes to the political landscape in the United States, law-making and legislation ultimately comes down to what the Senate and the House of Representatives vote on and how they vote. Gridlock has been studied for years because of how it has changed the political landscape, essentially from the beginning. The Jacksonian Era in the mid 1800’s shifted the way that political parties operated, and from then on a two-party system has been a critical part of American politics. A vast majority of the American population has the stern belief that the Constitution does not need to be changed in any way, shape, or form. Fundamentally, this tradition continues from the very emergence of political parties during the election of 1796, principally between Federalist John Adams and Anti-federalist Thomas Jefferson. Prior to this election people unanimously conformed to the ideas of one man, George Washington, and therefore did not require the need for political parties.1 However, following his presidency the public was divided with opposing opinions, each arguing the best methods to regulate the country. Ultimately, the emergence of different opinions regarding the future of the United States involving the economy, foreign relations, ‘the masses,’ and the interpretation of the Constitution, led to the two political parties of the 1790s and the critical election of 1800.
The ideal political system can, and is, very challenging to create. We believe that the ideal system should accurately reflect the views of the people and create a system of powers that works throughout each branch of government. The branches of government include the executive, the legislative, and the courts. We also go into how these positions are elected, as well as the parties in which they are elected from. They all work together to create a sound government that will work in the best possible way.
