Immigration exists all over the world. Immigration is a common subject in different texts and newspapers. It is a hot topic right now. Authors portray the subject immigration in different ways. The texts The Red Umbrella and A Band-Aid for 800 Children both portray the subject immigration in similar and different ways. Immigration usually occurs because people want a better life in another country. Both books portray immigration decisions being made in search of a better life. In The Red Umbrella ,the parents say ¨We’ve made plans for you to leave Cuba … tomorrow.¨ In A Band-Aid for 800 Children, all of the children's parents made decisions to keep their kids in the U.S., so they can have a better life. One of those ways is they have different ways of appealing to the reader. The Red Umbrella uses dialogue and characterization to appeal to the readers emotions. A Band-Aid for 800 Children, facts, data, and statistics are used to appeal to the readers logical half of the brain. The settings are also different in each of the texts. In The Red Umbrella the setting is Cuba, during the Cuban revolution in the 1950's. In A Band-Aid for 800 Children the setting is Miami, Florida in 2014. No matter what the setting is the issues and struggles are the same. Another difference is that the two texts have different tones. The Red Umbrella has a positive tone toward parents choosing to send their kids to the U.S. for safety. I know this, because the texts says, “True, but I’d rather have you safe, living with a good family in the U.S., than staying in your own country with these godforsaken soldiers.” A Band-Aid for 800 Children has a negative tone towards having to leave their kids orphaned in the
