Like the trait approach and the biological section, there is another model of personality which delves into a person’s childhood to see where personality originated. It also is a strong advocate that nearly everything that happens in the human brain is not actively conscious. Carl Jung, the founder of the psychodynamic model, also believed that personality had dimensions that included introversion vs. extroversion, sensing vs. intuition, thinking vs. feeling, and perceiving vs. judging. The best way to test these dimensions is by taking the Myers-Briggs personality test. This style focuses on four different attachment styles to help understand how a person will react to different relationships and situations. The test for this, the adult attachment scale, asks a series of questions encompassing different attachment situations and asks the person to rank themselves from 1-5, one being not very characteristic at all and five being very characteristic. Once that is concluded, the examinee adds up their corresponding scores for both self and other. They then determine if they are either positive or negative for both of the subjects. After taking the test herself, subject A tallied her scores and concluded that she scores positive for both self and other. Those put together equal the title of secure as her attachment style. This means that she does not feel bothered, or particularly care, when she is on her own. In fact, this lines up perfectly with her lifestyle as she does spend most of her time alone, without any qualms. This can even be traced back to her childhood. The founder of the attachment theory, John Bowlby, held the belief that the bond created by the mother and infant could have great affects on the child later in life. The test to prove the attachment of the mother and child is called the stranger test. Basically, the mom leaves the child in the room by themselves, or with a stranger and see how they react. If they are secure, than they would not have any problem with this and would continue their activity, but if they are in any way negative in either the self or other column, then there will be visible stress that can be seen from the child. Of course, this was not a test that was performed on subject A, however speaking with her mother, it was suggested that if the subject had experienced this situation, she most likely would not have been distressed by this situation at all and would have been content with her own preoccupation.
